Job Description

Internship – Environmental impact evaluation of EcoDesign actions - BAC+5 (Eybens) - F/H

Location: Eybens, Electropole’s site - 31 Rue Pierre Mendès France, Eybens
Department: Innovation & Technology, CoE Eco-Design
Tutor: Charles Gnanaraj Devaraju, LCA & EcoDesign tools expert

Schneider Electric's mission is to empower everyone to make the most of their energy and resources, ensuring that Life Is On everywhere, for everyone, at every moment. We focus on delivering digital solutions for efficiency and sustainability across various sectors, helping businesses and individuals optimize their energy use and reduce their environmental impact.

As the environmental impact evaluation of EcoDesign actions intern, you will join the Eco-Design Center of Excellence, part of the Innovation & Technology team in the Energy Management Business Unit. Our mission is to develop and deliver cutting-edge solutions that enhance energy efficiency, sustainability, and reliability. This involves leveraging advanced technologies, such as IoT, artificial intelligence, and digital twins, to optimize energy consumption, reduce carbon footprints, and enable customers to navigate the energy transition effectively.

The focus is on empowering businesses and communities to harness energy resources intelligently and sustainably, driving innovation that meets the evolving demands of a more connected and sustainable world.

Your role:

As part of this, we have developed an eco-design end to end process that allows projects to address different eco-design categories and levers. Thanks to this process, it is now relatively easy to define which levers can be addressed in projects (depending on the product range and market requirements), but we now need to go further by quantifying the impact of these different ideas (benefits, trade-off management, etc.).

We are looking for a dedicated intern to work on the impact evaluation of EcoDesign actions. This role is crucial for creating and disseminating content, developing training plans, and fostering community engagement among Eco-Design professionals. The successful candidate will help establish a strong Eco-Design momentum across our organization, ensuring knowledge and resources are accessible at all levels.

This 6-month mission should ideally start in May 2025. The position will be supervised by our LCA and eco-design development tools expert Charles Gnanaraj Devaraju who is based in Bangalore (India), and requires a commitment to our divisions in the Grenoble area (Electropole, 31 r François Quesnais, 38320 Eybens in particular). This local activity will be supervised by our eco-design deployment product owner Willy Martin.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assess Environmental Actions:
    • Evaluate the environmental impact of a product’s full lifecycle, focusing on CO2 reduction, lifetime extension, recyclability potential, and other environmental impact reductions.
    • Identify opportunities for sustainable improvements through comprehensive assessments.
  • Find Viable Sustainable Solutions:
    • Utilize tools and guidelines to simulate and compare different environmental scenarios.
    • Focus on actionable approaches that reduce the carbon footprint of our products.
  • Integrate EcoDesign Principles:
    • Embed sustainability into R&D processes.
    • Ensure environmentally responsible design decisions are made.
  • Develop Decision-Making Tools:
    • Create simple tools or methodologies to help technical teams quickly prioritize design actions.
    • Ensure these tools aid in making the right decisions from the start by allowing designers to compare different solutions in terms of environmental impact.

Internship duration: 6 months

Start: 05/05/2025

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, or Communications
  • Strong expertise in Eco-Design principles and practices as well as in Product Design.
  • Proven experience in knowledge management, technical and innovative topics, preferably in the sustainability or Eco-Design field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in training development, project management, and budget management.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.

What we offer:

  • Opportunity to drive impactful sustainability initiatives.
  • International, Engaging and collaborative work environment.
  • A competitive salary, an individual bonus as well as profit-sharing and participation bonuses that reward everyone’s efforts.
  • A range of social benefits that make life easier: health insurance, enhanced savings and retirement plans, company shares…
  • Professional development through training, internal mobility (local and international), skills sharing, etc.
  • An onboarding journey starting from your first day to equip you with the keys to success at Schneider Electric within a culture that promotes Diversity, Professional Growth and Inclusion.
  • A work-life balance thanks to our remote working policy and our global family policy.

By joining Schneider Electric as an intern, in addition to a rewarding professional and personal experience, you will benefit from:

  • A monthly stipend determined according to your level of education.
  • An end-of-internship bonus at the manager's discretion.
  • A 75% reimbursement of public transportation costs.
  • A dedicated welcome day for internships longer than 3 months.
