Job Title: SQL Server Expert (Audit & Performance Improvement)

Location: Waterloo, ON (100% Onsite)

Duration: 2-3 Weeks (Contract)

Start date: Immediate

Role Overview:

• We are seeking an experienced SQL Server Expert for a focused, short-term assignment at our client’s Waterloo office. This specialist will conduct a comprehensive audit of our existing SQL Server infrastructure, identify performance bottlenecks, and develop a detailed action plan for enhancing performance and optimizing database operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform an in-depth audit of existing SQL Server databases and related infrastructure.
• Analyze current database performance, configuration settings, indexing strategies, and storage mechanisms.
• Identify performance bottlenecks, risks, and areas for potential improvement.
• Provide actionable recommendations for database optimization, indexing, query optimization, and infrastructure adjustments.
• Document findings clearly and present an actionable performance improvement plan to key stakeholders.
• Assist in initial implementation or demonstration of critical performance enhancements.

Qualifications:

• 12+ years of experience working extensively with SQL Server databases, particularly in auditing and performance optimization roles.
• Expert-level knowledge of SQL Server configuration, indexing strategies, query tuning, and performance analysis.
• Proven track record in conducting detailed database audits and providing comprehensive improvement plans.
• Experience with SQL Server diagnostic tools, monitoring tools, and performance tuning utilities.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and strong analytical skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; capable of clearly explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Availability to work onsite in Waterloo for the entire duration of the assignment.

Preferred Skills:

• SQL Server certification.
• Knowledge of cloud-based database environments (Azure SQL, AWS RDS) would be an advantage.
