Senior Database Architect (PostgreSQL)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Architect specializing in PostgreSQL to support a large-scale IT system for a European Commission project.

A Day in the Life of a Senior Database Architect will include:

• Design, install, configure, and tune PostgreSQL databases for optimal performance and scalability;
• Manage multiregional database configurations and clustering to ensure high availability across multiple data centers;
• Develop and implement database architecture strategies aligned with business and application requirements;
• Create and maintain database models, schemas, and data dictionaries;
• Implement and manage backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and business continuity;
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to make strategic and architectural decisions regarding the software;
• Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements;
• Provide expert-level troubleshooting and support for database-related issues;
• Implement and maintain database security measures, including access controls and encryption;
• Develop and document database standards, procedures, and guidelines;
• Conduct capacity planning and performance tuning to accommodate growing data volumes and user loads;
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior database administrators and developers;
• Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements and support the continued implementation of the Group Anti-Bribery and Corruption Policy.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience as a Database Administrator or Architect, with at least 5 years focused on PostgreSQL.
• Expert-level knowledge of PostgreSQL, including advanced features, performance tuning, optimization techniques, and high-availability and disaster recovery solutions for PostgreSQL.
• Strong experience in designing and managing multiregional database configurations and clustering.
• Proficiency in database modeling (preferably with UML and modeling tools (e.g SPARX Enterprise Architect), normalization, and denormalization techniques.
• Solid understanding of database security best practices and implementation.
• Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions and migration strategies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
• Knowledge of EU data protection regulations and security standards.
• Fluency in English; French language knowledge is an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with other database management systems (e.g., Oracle, MySQL).
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools.
• Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and big data technologies.
• Certifications in PostgreSQL or other relevant database technologies.
• Experience working in large-scale, mission-critical environments.
• Understanding of biometric data management and processing.
