SENIOR CAMP LEADER ROLES

Department: Community Services Department - Recreation Division
File Number: SV24-171
Location: Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre
Hours: 41 hours per week, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday to Friday, with Tuesdays being 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Employee Group: Non-Union
Salary: $18.56 - $20.34 per hour
Closing Date: January 10, 2025 at 4:30 PM

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

As a member of the Community Services Department, these positions will provide safe supervision and leadership for children and youth ages 4 -17 years with age-appropriate, well-planned out games and activities for their designated camp group and be a role-model and mentor for the Leader-In-Training, Camp Helpers, and Camp Junior Leaders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Represent the City of Belleville in a professional manner with appropriate actions and conduct.
  • Ensure the safety and supervision of the participants and follow all rules and regulations set out by the Department and/or outside organizations.
  • Attend all staff training sessions and scheduled staff meetings.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of the daily activities, to ensure a successful program.
  • Assist with the proper handling and care of the equipment, supplies, and facilities utilized, and reporting damages or losses to the Camp Coordinator.
  • Be a resource to fellow leaders regarding adaptive programming requirements to better meet the needs of campers with both identified and unidentified behavior and/or diagnosed campers who require specialized programming.
  • Ensure the completion and submission of the required administrative forms (i.e. accident forms, supply requests, special event forms, etc.).
  • Participate in daily activities with the campers (which may include swimming).
  • Evaluate the overall success of the program; submit reports and feedback to the Summer Camp Coordinator.
  • Attend all Summer Staff Training sessions and scheduled staff meetings.

SENIOR LEADER (GENERAL):

Number of Positions Available: 4
This position will be general in nature and be associated with a variety of games and activities throughout the summer.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum enrolled in post-secondary education in child/youth or recreation related fields.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in camps or related environments.
  • Minimum of two (2) years/seasons of experience as a Junior Program Leader or equivalent experience working with children in a recreational or teaching setting.
  • Experience with program/lesson planning, design, development, and implementation of children’s, age-appropriate activities.
  • Hold a current Standard First Aid and C.P.R. certification.
  • Hold the High Five, Healthy Child Development certification.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Babysitting Course or a Leader in Training certifications is considered an asset.
  • Valid ‘G’ Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Bronze Cross, National Lifeguard, or Swim Instructor swimming qualification an asset.
  • NCCP Coaching certifications.
  • Previous supervisory experience an asset.

SENIOR LEADER – WATER SPORTS:

Number of Positions Available: 1
This position will focus on aquatic related sports and activities, along with regular camp activities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum enrolled in post-secondary education in child/youth or recreation related fields.
  • Hold a current Standard First Aid and C.P.R. certification.
  • Hold the High Five, Healthy Child Development certification.
  • Hold a current National Lifeguard Certification.
  • Minimum of two (2) years/seasons of experience as a Junior Program Leader or equivalent experience working with children in a recreational or teaching setting.
  • Experience with program/lesson planning, design, development, and implementation of children’s, age-appropriate swimming and water activities.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Swimming Instructor qualifications.
  • ORCA certification.
  • NCCP Coaching certifications.
  • Studying in a recreation, child related field, social services, or a related field an asset.
  • Valid ‘G’ Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Previous supervisory experience an asset.

SENIOR LEADER – THEATRE CAMP:

Number of Positions Available: 1
This position will focus specifically on theatre and drama related activities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum enrolled in post-secondary education in child/youth or recreation related fields.
  • Minimum of two (2) years/seasons of experience as a Junior Program Leader or equivalent experience working with children in a recreational or teaching setting.
  • Hold a current Standard First Aid and C.P.R. certification.
  • Hold the High Five, Healthy Child Development certification.
  • Experience in theatre either as a participant or work/volunteer experience.
  • Experience coaching/instructing sport programs to children of various ages.
  • Experience with program/lesson planning, design, development, and implementation of children’s, age-appropriate activities.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous supervisory experience an asset.

SENIOR LEADER – SPORTS CAMP:

Number of Positions Available: 1
This position will focus specifically on sports and recreation related activities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum enrolled in post-secondary education in child/youth or recreation related fields.
  • Minimum of two (2) years/seasons of experience as a Junior Program Leader or equivalent experience working with children in a recreational or teaching setting.
  • Hold a current Standard First Aid and C.P.R. certification.
  • Hold the High Five, Healthy Child Development certification.
  • Experience as a participant in sport discipline(s).
  • Experience coaching/instructing sport programs to children of various ages.
  • Experience with program/lesson planning, design, development, and implementation of children’s, age-appropriate activities.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

  • NCCP Coaching certifications.
  • Bronze Cross, National Lifeguard, or Swim Instructor swimming qualification is an asset.
  • Experience as a sport referee or official.
  • Previous supervisory experience an asset.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS:

  • Stage 1 – Interviews: Interviews will be scheduled with successful candidates between February 15, 2025 and March 1, 2025.
  • Stage 2 – Offer letter and Onboarding Paperwork: Offers will go out before the end of March 2025 and onboarding paperwork date will be included in your offer letter for documents to be returned.
  • Stage 3 – Start Date: This anticipated commencement of this position is June 20, 2025 until August 29, 2025.
