Offer Description

ISTerre is a joint research unit of Université Grenoble Alpes, CNRS, USMB, IRD and Université Gustave Eiffel, located at 1381 rue de la Piscine 38400 Saint-Martin d'Hères, on the Bourget du Lac science campus. It is part of the Observatoire des Sciences de l'Univers de Grenoble (OSUG) and the PAGE research cluster of the Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA). It employs around 300 people.

It is organized around 10 research and service teams, with the scientific objective of studying the physics and chemistry of planet Earth, focusing on coupling observations of natural objects with experimentation and modeling of the associated complex processes. More about ISTerre

You will be working in the Active Tectonics and Seismicity research team at ISTerre, joining the team led by Riccardo Vassallo (senior lecturer, HDR) and Hervé Jomard (engineer/researcher) for ASNR.

Work will be carried out in collaboration with Christophe Larroque (Laboratoire Géoazur) and Christian Sue (Isterre, PI of the ANR Madalps project).

Activities

  • Analyze existing maps, reports and publications to establish a structural and morphological map.
  • Determine the most appropriate dating methods to characterize the age of observed deformations, whether morphological and/or sedimentary.
  • Carry out subsurface geophysical prospecting and high-resolution topography campaigns, in preparation for the installation of paleoseismological trenches at targeted sites.
  • Carry out and analyze paleoseismological trenches based on results obtained in previous stages.
  • Participate actively in the activities of the ANR Madalps project.

Regular travel, mainly during the summer months, is planned in France and abroad (particularly in Italy) for geological field campaigns, as well as for the presentation of work at national and international scientific conferences.
Field work, mainly in the Alpine region, requires good physical condition.

Requirements

  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of paleoseismological methods: geological and geomorphological mapping, subsurface geophysics, sedimentological description in trenches, dating techniques, topographical data processing (photogrammetry, Lidar).
  • Good cartographic synthesis skills (production of maps, structural diagrams, etc.) are required.
  • Sense of organization and synthesis, teamwork, autonomy.

Preferred training:
Earth sciences (active tectonics, paleoseismology, structural geology).
