The Méthodes et Histoires de l'Architecture (MHA) laboratory is a research unit of the Ministry of Culture and the Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA). It is housed within the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Grenoble (ENSAG) and structures its scientific activities around three main themes:

1. The critical and theoretical dimensions of architecture, focusing on the processes involved in constructing ideas and concepts.
2. The projectual and instrumental dimensions, considering the tools and instruments of architectural design.
3. The material and physical dimensions, by building up a historical knowledge of the built environment.

The laboratory is at the heart of a particularly dynamic scientific ecosystem, developing scientific relations with the national research body CEA and with MIAI, the Interdisciplinary Institute for Artificial Intelligence. You will be in contact with researchers from other laboratories, particularly the LIG (Grenoble Computer Science Laboratory), to contribute to the development of the fundamental aspects of computer science and develop synergy between the conceptual, technological, and scientific challenges of artificial intelligence.

Activities

• Play a central role in defining and carrying out experiments, both with students and with professionals.
• Design experimental protocols, collect data, and analyse results.
• Supervise work placements.
• Contribute to the definition and creation of training modules on AI for architecture.
• Help put together an exhibition on AI for architecture.
• Participate in the characterisation of a theoretical framework for computational co-creation.
• Participate in publications and the organisation of scientific meetings.
• Produce written documents reporting on experiments, manuals facilitating interaction with LLMs (customisation of data sets, etc.), or other media for disseminating information and training.
• Organise experiments and the collection and analysis of associated data.
• Expertise in AI and image generation techniques: the project focuses on the use of AI, particularly image generation techniques such as Dall-E, Stable Diffusion, and Midjourney, for architectural design.
• Knowledge of architectural design: the project aims to integrate AI into the architectural design process.
• Essential in-depth knowledge of the different phases of architectural design, the tools and methods used, and the challenges specific to this field.
• Desired skills and experience in the use of LLMs (Large Language Models) in the field of architecture.
• Desired skills in NLP (Automatic Language Processing) to tackle specific vocabulary issues.
• Ability to analyse and evaluate: the project involves analysing the impact of AI techniques on architectural design, identifying limitations and biases, and evaluating the tools and methods developed.
• Ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses, collect and interpret data.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills: the project involves collaboration with architecture students, professionals from the construction sector, and researchers from other institutions.
