Research Chair in Biological and Environmental Sciences leading to a Professor Position

IRSET is seeking talented early-career researchers eager to develop their own research programs in Biological and Environmental Sciences. This opportunity offers a dynamic environment to collaborate with experts in molecular biology, immunology, virology, epidemiology, analytical chemistry, and toxicology.

We aim to attract researchers with a strong record of impactful publications and recognized achievements in their field, with the ultimate goal of supporting their application for a professorship at the University of Rennes.

IRSET will provide the selected candidate with a fully equipped office (computer, furniture, supplies, etc.) and a dedicated research area within the laboratory of the respective team. The Chair holder also has access to shared technological equipment within IRSET, as well as to the site's cutting-edge technological platforms, particularly via BIOSIT research support unit.

We welcome applications from candidates across all fields of human health-related biology, particularly those exploring links with environmental factors. Areas of special interest include: Physiopathology (e.g., reproductive tract, liver, lung); Infectiology and immunity; Cancer biology; Genetics/Epigenetics and Omics approaches; Pharmacology and toxicology; Analytical chemistry; Cellular and molecular biology; Molecular epidemiology; Exposure sciences; Experimental sciences.

Main Responsibilities:

• Develop a high-impact research program aligned with IRSET’s research priorities, securing external funding.
• Publish in high-quality, open-access journals following best practices for scientific rigor and reproducibility.
• Mentor Master’s students, PhD candidates, and postdoctoral fellows, fostering academic excellence.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Present research findings at scientific conferences and seminars.
• Contribute to IRSET’s international visibility and collaborations.
• Given the highly competitive nature of tenure-track positions, candidates must demonstrate a strong track record of impactful publications and successful research funding.
• Applicants should propose an innovative and ambitious research program with the potential for significant scientific contributions.

Skills & Qualifications:

• A doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, DVM, MD, or equivalent).
• A proven record of research accomplishments and peer-reviewed publications in relevant fields.

Researcher Profile:

• Established researcher (more than 10 years of research experience).
• Required experience: Minimum 8 years post-PhD experience.

HOST LABORATORY

Located in Rennes, France, the Research Institute for Environmental and Occupational Health (IRSET) is a leading interdisciplinary research center dedicated to studying environmental and occupational health risks. With a team of 350 researchers, engineers, and technical staff, IRSET aims to understand how environmental factors—such as chemical pollutants, pharmaceuticals, biological agents (viruses, parasites), physical agents (electromagnetic waves), occupational exposures, and socio-economic conditions—affect human health.

IRSET operates under the joint supervision of three major institutions: INSERM, the University of Rennes, and EHESP School of Public Health.
