The position is based in France. The person must be a good communicator and a team player, able to interact with internal partners and customer’s technical staff. The future candidate must be a good planner, detail oriented, able to set priorities and coordinate with other team members.

Mission/Purpose of the Job

The applications engineer is responsible for providing pre-sales and technical product marketing support to the regional sales organisation through technical engagements with customers.

The role requires knowledge of advanced semiconductor manufacturing technology and engineering-based problem-solving techniques with duties that include making equipment recommendations, creating & delivering customer presentations, managing field evaluations, and investigating complex equipment & process challenges.

Main Responsibilities

  • Build long-term Edwards brand value by developing customer trust through knowledgeable applications support and engagements.
  • Work collaboratively with customer equipment and process engineers to solve complex equipment and process challenges and align these with opportunities for installation of Edwards equipment.
  • Work with regional product managers (RPM) and account teams as appropriate to develop product value propositions, including cost of ownership modelling for individual products.
  • Make & justify equipment recommendations based on customers’ technical requirements.
  • Create and deliver technical presentations to internal partners and external customers.
  • Project manage field evaluations of Edwards equipment which includes identification and justification of resources required for successful project executions.
  • Participate in the account planning of the sales organisation to support successful execution of relevant account strategies.
  • Work with product companies and local RPM to solve the customer applications, technical & manufacturing challenges through effective communication of the customer‘s issues in both technical and commercial terms to ensure proper prioritisation and focus of Edwards engineering and applications resources.
  • Participate in equipment failure investigations to identify root cause and drive improvements, using methodical analysis techniques (e.g. FMEA, 8D) and applications knowledge.
  • Identify and monitor customers’ manufacturing challenges and provide market intelligence to the RPM to support the Edwards market-in process based on understanding of technical requirements to support future product development.
  • Clearly communicate locally derived and validated knowledge and learning collaboratively with Division and global applications team through internal presentations / meetings, Applications Information Bulletins (AIBs), Developing best known methods (BKMs) and providing feedback for the tool data resource (TDR).

To succeed, you will need

Skills / Knowledge / Experience

  • Technical training & experience – A 4-year engineering or physical sciences degree or higher is preferred. Bachelor or Master of Science or equivalent work experience in multiple science disciplines is a plus. Knowledge of semiconductor, LED and solar industries is desirable.
  • Customer Focused - Ability to identify and translate the customer stated and unstated challenges and collaborate with internal partners to identify and implement solutions.
  • Analytical Thinking - Ability to analyse and dissect a complex problem with intertwined technical and commercial challenges.
  • Effective Communication - The candidate must have excellent English written and verbal communication skills, preferably excellent French written and verbal communication. The ability to convey highly technical issues in a concise and effective manner is critical for this role.
  • Work Environment - Experience working with customers under high-pressure situations is important. Experience in semiconductor R&D and high-volume manufacturing (HVM) environment is a plus.
  • Time Management – Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and effectively prioritise tasks based on the evolving needs of the business.
  • Impact and Influence - Ability to identify and influence decision makers within Edwards' and customers' organisation. Effectively justify resource required to solve technical challenges.
  • Business Awareness - Has a clear grasp of the commercial drivers behind the customers' and Edwards' technical initiatives and how they fit within a business strategy.

The employee may occasionally visit customers and Edwards’ facilities and be exposed to environments where hazardous material is used. The employee is expected to follow the safety protocols and use required personal protective equipment (PPE) at such facilities but will only be required to do upon completion of the appropriate safety training.

This position requires occasional to frequent travel ranging from 25-50% of the position which will depend on the needs of the business. Business travel is expected to include overnight or multiple days.
