The team Transcriptional regulation of neural and immune development at the IGBMC (Institut de génétique et de biologie moléculaire et cellulaire) in Strasbourg is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to study the cross-talk between the macrophages and the intestine epithelium during enteric infection using the model Drosophila melanogaster. The project is funded by an ANR and is carried out in close collaboration with the team of Dr. Dominique Ferrandon (IBMC, Strasbourg).

The recruited researcher will integrate the team Transcriptional regulation of neural and immune development headed by Dr. Angela Giangrande and will be supervised by Dr. Pierre Cattenoz. The IGBMC is a joint research unit between CNRS, INSERM and University of Strasbourg of around 600 staff scientists. The Institute is housed in Illkirch adjacent to Strasbourg and hosts multiple platforms giving access to state-of-the-art technologies including high throughput techniques (Genomeast) and microscopy (ICI). The working language of the laboratory is English.

Activités

The goal of the project is to decipher the mechanisms regulating the intestine resilience after enteric challenges in the adult Drosophila. Data generated by our collaborator showed that the intestinal epithelium undergoes drastic thinning upon cytotoxic bacterial infection and recovers quickly after removal of the bacteria. This phenomenon is conserved in mammals. The thinning of the epithelium is regulated in part by macrophages. Our laboratory has identified different subgroups of macrophages in Drosophila displaying specific properties and our current challenges are to identify the macrophage subgroup(s) interacting with the intestine and the molecular pathways involved in the process. The recruited postdoc will use single cell sequencing and spatial transcriptomic as well as the extensive genetic toolbox available in Drosophila to characterize the signalling pathways involved in the intestine/macrophage interaction leading to the thinning of the epithelium.

Missions

The recruited postdoc should have a strong interest in innate immunity, should preferably have extensive experience in molecular biology and next generation sequencing. Previous experiences in Drosophila and confocal microscopy is recommended but not required.
