Offer Description

Mines Saint-Etienne (MSE), one of the graduate schools of Institut Mines Télécom, is assigned missions of education, research and innovation, transfer to industry, and scientific, technological and industrial culture.

MSE consists of 2,400 graduate and postgraduate students, 400 staff, a consolidated budget of €46M, and several sites across the Auvergne Rhone-Alpes region. The Times Higher Education World University Ranking ranked us for 2022 in the 251-300 range for Engineering and Technology.

The CIS brings together 70 people, including 18 professors in engineering industrial/computing, biomechanics and healthcare engineering.

We open a non-permanent position of post-doctoral fellow to join the Avril’s team working on the JuvenTwin project. The work will be carried out at Mines Saint-Etienne, within the SAINBIOSE research unit (Inserm U1059).

1. Missions

The main missions of the post-doctoral fellow will be to:

  1. Perform functional studies on excised aortas such as mechanical tests with custom computer-controlled extension-distension testing device.
  2. Implement, adapt and coordinate molecular biology techniques such as spatial transcriptomics to analyse the excised aorta.
  3. Connect with the other work package of the project focusing on vascular smooth muscle cells and computational modelling.
  4. Apply for grant calls and communicate results inside and outside the laboratory.

A stay of 6 months at Yale University is planned.

2. Profile of the candidate

The candidate should hold a PhD degree in biomechanics, mechanobiology, biochemistry, biophysics, or molecular biology and should satisfy the following criteria:

  • Good knowledge of basic cell biology and molecular biology tools.
  • Familiarity with biomechanics techniques; first experience with testing blood vessels is a plus.
  • Interest in innovation, technology development and translational research.
  • Knowledge of written and spoken English is a requirement.

- Capacity to successfully integrate into a team within an R&D environment.

  • Rigor, methodology, organization, dynamism, autonomy and critical sense.
  • Expertise in front-end and back-end development.
