Demo Plant Senior Project Engineer
Location : Villebon-sur-Yvette (Paris area)
About Us : At Fairbrics, we're at the forefront of a groundbreaking approach to sustainability. We’re transforming carbon dioxide from industrial emissions into valuable chemicals used in polyester production—the primary material for clothing. Our mission is to revolutionize the industry by dramatically cutting greenhouse gas emissions and championing a more sustainable future.
Position Overview : We are seeking a highly experienced Demo Plant Engineer to join our dynamic start-up. This dual-focus role requires both technical expertise and site leadership. You will play a crucial part in developing our groundbreaking CO2 conversion technology through process simulation and design, while simultaneously leading site-related aspects of the project. You will be instrumental in designing and overseeing the construction of our Demo plant from the ground up - the first of its kind - starting from a greenfield site.
Key Responsibilities :
- Play a leading role in the detailed design, calculations, and simulations to develop our new CO2 conversion technology and contribute to the construction of the Demo plant, working collaboratively with the team and engineering companies.
- Innovate and develop cutting-edge solutions to enhance the technology and ensure the process is efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable, applying your deep technical expertise while actively participating in their implementation.
- Spearhead the site selection, planning, and preparation process, coordinating with local authorities and stakeholders while applying your technical expertise to ensure the site meets all process requirements.
- Lead regulatory compliance efforts, ensuring the Demo plant design meets all safety standards and environmental regulations while minimizing emissions.
- Review and approve construction plans, process drawings, and documents to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Balance technical optimization of the process design with practical site implementation challenges, developing solutions that maintain efficiency while being constructible in a greenfield environment.
- Manage timeline, budget, and scope throughout the design and construction phase, including identifying, evaluating, and overseeing key equipment suppliers and contractors to ensure they meet technical specifications, quality standards, and project deadlines.
- Directly contribute to the commissioning, operational testing, start-up and shutdown of the Demo plant, ensuring it is built to design standards and performs as intended.
- Oversee the design and installation of plant utilities (e.g., water, steam, compressed air, etc.) and electrical systems, ensuring they meet project and regulatory requirements.
- Create detailed technical documentation, guidelines, process specifications, and standard operating procedures to ensure compliance with chemical industry best practices.
- Actively engage in hands-on tasks and provide technical guidance, working alongside junior engineers and team members to drive innovation and excellence.
Required Qualifications :
- MSc or PhD in a technical field: chemical engineering or related field.
- Minimum 8 years in a technical role within the chemical industry (engineering, procurement, construction), with specific experience in designing or building pilot/demo plants.
- Proven expertise with project management tools and methodologies.
- Self-motivated and proactive, able to adapt, prioritize, and manage multiple projects in fast-paced environments.
- Excellent communicator and team player, with strong verbal, written, and collaboration skills.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to learn quickly with minimal guidance.
- Fluency in English is required; French is a plus.
- Willingness to travel and spend time abroad for meetings and commissioning.
Nice-to-have :
- Safety certifications (HAZOP, HAZID, ATEX…)
- Expertise in process simulation (Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, ProII...)
- Experience managing stakeholder relationships, including contractors, suppliers, and regulatory authorities.
- Familiarity with heterogeneous/homogeneous catalytic systems.
- Familiarity with electrolyzer systems.
- Experience with gas/liquid/solid and high-pressure processes.
Compensation and perks :
- Role with opportunities for swift career growth.
- Competitive compensation.
- Employee benefits (health insurance, public transport allowance).
- The opportunity to work on a groundbreaking project with significant environmental impact.
- A collaborative and innovative work environment within a fast-paced start-up.
- Wonderful colleagues and fun activities ;)
If you are a driven, experienced engineer with a passion for developing transformative technologies and are excited by the prospect of playing a leading role in both the technical development and physical construction of a pioneering Demo plant, we encourage you to apply.
