Description
Established in 2014, SuperGrid Institute is an independent private company with over 150 employees of 21 different nationalities. The institute is a key player for energy transition in France and throughout Europe, specialising in innovative high and medium voltage direct current (HVDC and MVDC) power systems. SuperGrid Institute also develops new technologies for the integration of renewable energies into the electricity networks of the future.
SuperGrid Institute has been ranked every year since 2018, reaching the podium 3 times in the INPI prize list.

General Context
HVDC technology plays a crucial role in the integration of renewable energy sources, such as offshore wind farms, into the power grid. While point-to-point and multi-terminal HVDC connections are already in operation, future HVDC systems are foreseen to evolve into meshed HVDC grids. Bipolar HVDC systems are considered the standard configuration, providing operational flexibility during outages affecting one pole. To ensure reliable and efficient system operation, a power flow calculation tool that accurately models the independent behavior of both positive and negative poles, as well as neutral physical quantities, is essential. This internship will focus on the development of such a power flow tool, which will not only facilitate the feasibility and design studies of HVDC systems but also enable security analysis of the systems. The tool will be validated against Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) simulations and extended to perform contingency analysis based on the N-1 criterion. Additionally, the intern will work on enhancing the tool with system security optimization, incorporating control parameter sensitivity analysis and optimization techniques.
