The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for the provision of clinical laboratory results for the purpose of achieving definite therapeutic outcomes that improve patient care. Clinical laboratory practice involves the process through which a tech works with other health care professionals to design, implement and monitor a therapeutic plan that will produce specific therapeutic outcomes for the patient. Through these actions, the Laboratory Department supports the overall goals of the hospital, and improves the health and well-being of the patient.
Associate degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution
OR
Official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks duration and holds/held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist.
Relevant experience preferred. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail. Analytical skills necessary in order to determine proper specimen container and storage. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with physicians and various other personnel.
MLT: ASCP registered or eligible
Walking or standing up to eighty percent of the work time. Subject to frequent changes in priority of duties throughout the day. Analytical skills necessary in order to determine appropriateness of laboratory order. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail. Occasional exposure to hazardous materials.
