The aim of the thesis is to work on the application of a telecom network design methodology under strong sustainability constraints developed by the Ecole des Mines de St Etienne. This means adapting to the telecoms context and reinforcing existing tools and concepts to ensure both a qualitative and quantitative approach to evaluation.
Main barriers/challenges to be overcome (scientific or technical):
- Identify the real and genuine needs of stakeholders and the region.
- Propose the key factors to be taken into consideration: stakeholders and their relationships, governance, organisations, ....
- Identify the specific features and main challenges of telecoms network design in a context of ecological transition.
- Transcribe the aspects of strong sustainability for the design of telecoms networks by integrating living issues - identify the impacts of solutions on living and non-living organisms.
Recommended approaches to overcome these obstacles:
- Formulation of ecosystem needs (Max Neef) and appropriation of the purpose of telecoms networks.
- Systems modelling, systemic analysis.
- Material flow analysis, development of business model frameworks (Canvas).
- Triple accounting methodology - (C.A.R.E).
- Participatory approach, stakeholder games, future design.
Main deliverables (apart from publications and writing the manuscript):
- A guide to identifying real needs based on the methodology developed in the thesis.
- Implementation scenarios to suggest network design trajectories with a view to integrating aspects of strong sustainability: environment, regeneration and the challenges of planetary limits and social ethics.
- Recommendations for the design of networks integrating aspects of strong sustainability to meet real needs with a view to the resilience of Orange territories.
- Share this methodology with all stakeholders involved in Orange ecosystems to develop and operate networks compatible with planetary limits.
