One postdoc position is open at Aix-Marseille University to use optical data for the study of fast radio bursts (FRBs). The position is part of FLAME, a project to detect gravitationally lensed FRBs founded by the French government as part of the Initiative d'Excellence d'Aix-Marseille Université.
Project
The main goal is to develop models of galaxy-galaxy lenses in preparation for the detection of strongly lensed FRBs. This will require developing a fast modeling algorithm to obtain a galaxy mass profile within hours, leveraging observations from Euclid. For the most interesting systems, these quick models will be refined with dedicated observations on major telescopes.
As an additional outcome, radio experiments such as CHIME/FRB are starting to deliver a large number of FRB host galaxies, which will be further increased by next-generation facilities currently under construction such as CHORD. Obtaining reliable redshifts and galaxy properties for this large sample is currently challenging. The postdoc will use Euclid and UNIONS observations to characterize a large sample of galaxies hosting FRBs.
Ample time will be available for the postdoc to develop independent studies, leading projects within Euclid, CHIME/FRB, and CHORD, or exploring autonomously different areas of research.
Candidates from all backgrounds are welcome to apply.
