IRSET is seeking talented early-career researchers eager to develop their own research programs in Biological and Environmental Sciences. This opportunity offers a dynamic environment to collaborate with experts in molecular biology, immunology, virology, epidemiology, analytical chemistry, and toxicology.
We aim to attract researchers with a strong record of impactful publications and recognized achievements in their field, with the ultimate goal of supporting their application for a professorship at the University of Rennes.
IRSET will provide the selected candidate with a fully equipped office (computer, furniture, supplies, etc.) and a dedicated research area within the laboratory of the respective team. The Chair holder also has access to shared technological equipment within IRSET, as well as to the site's cutting-edge technological platforms, particularly via BIOSIT research support unit.
We welcome applications from candidates across all fields of human health-related biology, particularly those exploring links with environmental factors. Areas of special interest include: Physiopathology (e.g., reproductive tract, liver, lung); Infectiology and immunity; Cancer biology; Genetics/Epigenetics and Omics approaches; Pharmacology and toxicology; Analytical chemistry; Cellular and molecular biology; Molecular epidemiology; Exposure sciences; Experimental sciences.
Located in Rennes, France, the Research Institute for Environmental and Occupational Health (IRSET) (www.irset.org) is a leading interdisciplinary research center dedicated to studying environmental and occupational health risks. With a team of 350 researchers, engineers, and technical staff, IRSET aims to understand how environmental factors—such as chemical pollutants, pharmaceuticals, biological agents (viruses, parasites), physical agents (electromagnetic waves), occupational exposures, and socio-economic conditions—affect human health.
Composition: 350 persons, 12 research teams (incl. 1 ERC team), and one innovation and R&D platform
IRSET operates under the joint supervision of three major institutions: INSERM, the University of Rennes, and EHESP School of Public Health.
INSERM (French National Institute of Health and Medical Research) (www.inserm.fr/en) is the only French public research organization fully dedicated to human health. Covering a broad spectrum of biomedical research—from fundamental studies to clinical and public health research—INSERM supports 15,000 researchers, engineers, and administrative staff across laboratories throughout France. The institute's mission is to advance knowledge of living organisms and diseases, drive innovation in treatments, and contribute to public health improvements.
The University of Rennes (www.univ-rennes.fr/en) and its affiliated Grandes Écoles welcome over 37,000 students annually across various research and training units. The university hosts 30 research units, 5 specialized structures, and 53 technological platforms, focusing on five key research domains: Biology & Health, Environment, Materials Science, Mathematics & Digital Technology, Humanities & Social Sciences.
EHESP School of Public Health (www.ehesp.fr/en/) is a public institution specializing in education and research in public health and social welfare. It fosters collaboration between public health and management disciplines. EHESP’s core missions include: 1. Training professionals in leadership, management, inspection, and regulatory roles within the health and social sectors. 2. Developing a national network for higher education in public health. 3. Advancing research in public health sciences. 4. Strengthening international collaborations through academic and institutional exchanges.
