Are you an experienced and motivated individual with a background in street works coordination and site supervision? Do you have a strong understanding of legislation surrounding highways and street works? If so, Luton Council would love to hear from you. We're looking for a Senior Streetworks Inspector to join our team and play a key role in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and quality of works on our public highways.
As a Senior Streetworks Inspector, you will take the lead in overseeing compliance with street works legislation, inspecting works across the borough, and supporting the coordination and permitting of roadworks. This is a vital frontline role that helps ensure the safe and effective management of Luton’s road network.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out inspections of utility and contractor street works in line with the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) and other relevant legislation.
- Coordinate, notice, and permit street works, ensuring minimal disruption to the public and compliance with statutory requirements.
- Analyse and interpret complex data to produce clear, concise reports and recommendations.
- Supervise highway works, ensuring materials and construction meet relevant standards.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues, contractors, statutory undertakers, and members of the public.
- Travel daily across the borough to inspect and monitor works on-site.
- Promote safe working practices and ensure health and safety regulations are upheld at all times.

About You
What We’re Looking For:
- Demonstrable experience in a customer-focused or public service environment.
- Proven experience with NRSWA inspections, noticing, permitting, and coordinating street works.
- Sound working knowledge of the Traffic Management Act 2004, CDM Regulations, Traffic Signs Regulations, and Health & Safety legislation.
- Strong understanding of construction materials and standards related to highway maintenance.
- Effective organisational skills, with the ability to manage conflicting demands and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare detailed reports and build strong working relationships.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access (or equivalent systems).
- NRSWA accreditation is essential.
- Ability to carry out site-based inspections and measurements, with regular travel across Luton.
