Context:

Within GEMS, the business platform Gas Assets & Developments Europe (BP GASDEVE) represents a front to back staff of 50+ people located in Paris, Bucharest, Madrid, Berlin, and Zug.

Our collective mission is to 'drive a growing valuable gas midstream activity into a low carbon energy world' through 4 main objectives:

  • Supply Europe with the needed natural gas
  • Provide flexibility to European gas and power Markets
  • Develop new gases (biomethane, hydrogen, CO2,…) needed for the energy transition and their markets in Europe

On this last point, BP GASDEVE is developing in particular a new CO2 business in Europe to manage the physical carbon dioxide molecule, by:

  • Designing and providing new CO2 management services to industrial players and infrastructures to offtake captured carbon dioxide, transport and permanently sequestrate it.
  • Enabling the implementation in Europe of new physical Carbon Capture & Sequestration chains (CCS) from specific industrial basins to onshore and offshore locations.

To achieve these ambitions, GASDEVE needs a CO2 Business support Intern.

Role:

Overall, the CO2 Business support Intern will be responsible for supporting the team to develop CCS chains to decarbonize industrial activities, in discussion with industrial customers, transport infrastructure developers, and storage developers.

To accomplish his/her missions, the CO2 Business support Intern will have the opportunity to work with internal GEMS and ENGIE experts, as well as interact with external market players, customers, and partners.

As a dedicated project, the CO2 Business support Intern may be entrusted with:

  • Developing a pilot CCS chain business case for biogenic CO2 cargoes to be collected, transported, and sequestered in Europe.
  • Developing a tool for quick estimation of transport chain costs for transporting cryogenic CO2 by rail, based on a quick techno-economic assessment of available technologies and commercial costs.

The work entrusted to the CO2 Business support Intern may also involve the following complementary tasks in support of the GEMS Low Carbon Gas cluster:

  • Prepare briefing materials for discussions with prospective customers and business partners.
  • Prepare analyses and synthesis in the form of notes and presentations, to support discussions with GEMS’ management team.
  • Provide regular market watch and analysis.
  • Keep the customer prospection pipeline up to date as well as identify new opportunities.
  • Participate actively in the work and life of the GEMS Low Carbon Gas cluster.

Must have:

  • Strong analytical skills, structured mindset, and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication & presentation skills, with the capacity to simplify complexities pragmatically.
  • Ability to work and deliver documents in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Good to have:

  • Proactive understanding of European regulations, e.g., on EU ETS, CCS, carbon certificates.
  • Educational background and/or experience in the industrial sector (hard-to-abate industries), the energy sector, or in the CCS sector.
  • Technical background in Fossil & Renewable Energy.

Must have:

  • Well organized and diligent in on-time calendar execution, with high-quality standards and agility to prioritize urgencies.
  • Pro-active and curious attitude, with good autonomy and an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Team-player with the capacity to work in a multi-cultural environment, and an active listening posture.
  • Excellent communicator in written and verbal form.

Good to have:

  • Strong interest in improving the social and environmental performance of energy-related activities.

Education and Professional Background:

University degree in Business or Engineering.
