Qualcomm’s Compiler Labs is a research and development team that focuses on improving Open-Source compilers, developing internal compilation solutions and tools to build optimised applications on Qualcomm’s hardware.

Qualcomm has proprietary implementation of key large language model (LLM) transformers that achieves leading performance on target architectures via advanced optimisation techniques including polyhedral compilation. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to conduct research into new domain-specific compiler techniques for achieving high performance on heterogeneous hardware and target a wide range of large model scenarios.

Responsibilities :

  • Analysing Qualcomm’s hardware solutions including CPU, GPU and AI accelerators,
  • Conducting research into new domain-specific compiler techniques for achieving high performance on heterogeneous hardware.
  • Assist in designing optimization approaches applied to AI software,
  • Developing new compiler and / or domain-specific tool features (C / C++, Python),
  • Writing and maintaining technical documentation.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Currently enrolled in a Ph.D. degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field, with a focus on compilers and / or software optimisation,
  • Excellent skills at software development in C / C++ (Python being a plus),
  • Must be available for 11+ weeks during Summer 2024 (May-September).

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience in compiler development, including general and target-specific optimization, vectorization, parallelization, polyhedral optimization,
  • Fluent in maths and applied maths, in particular linear algebra, and corresponding computational kernels,
  • Good understanding of the complete development toolchain, including compiler, linker, debugger, profiler, etc.
  • Knowledge of machine learning and AI models and tools, in particular large language models,
  • Experience in working in an international environment.

Location : On-site in Compiler Labs Office in Strasbourg France
