Software and Services
Are you ready to impact hundreds of millions of people accessing their files in the cloud from macOS and iOS every day? The Cloud File Providers team is seeking a leader who can shape and guide the development of our cloud storage stack on customer devices. Our team owns the FileProvider framework, built upon the APFS filesystem and other Apple core technologies, and supports services like iCloud Drive and Microsoft OneDrive. Our API allows a deep integration into key components of the user experience e.g., the Finder and Files apps, the open panels and recents menus, or Spotlight. As a leader in this organization, you will be responsible for this integration and own internal frameworks and their evolution. Some of the challenges include application launch performance and responsiveness, access control and privacy, handling of error states and edge cases around 3rd party app upgrade and uninstallation. You will participate in defining the user experience for file management.
Description
You will manage a diverse team of software engineers. This team owns a daemon and internal frameworks written in Swift, Objective-C, and C, and is central to the file management experience on iOS and macOS. Note that we operate at the daemon and framework level; your team will not be building UI. You will be responsible for task assignment and scoping; you will provide ETAs and be accountable for timely delivery. You are expected to contribute architecture guidance, code reviews, and risk assessments. You will identify and align with cross-functional teams owning dependencies or API clients, partnering with many different teams within the Software, Services, and AI/ML groups, as well as clients outside of Apple. You will work closely with QA and DAs to augment test coverage, reduce technical debt, validate new features, and ship them at the expected quality. You will have the opportunity to plan a multi-year roadmap and lead the design, execution, and post-execution phases of software development. You will be responsible for the development of some of the brightest engineers in the industry.
