Job Description:

The Hallgarten Apprenticeship Programme is an 18-month initiative designed to foster the development of new talent within the wine industry, offering a comprehensive perspective from vineyard to table.

As a Head Start apprentice, you will gain exposure to various aspects of Hallgarten & Novum Wines' operations, including time at the head office in Luton, customer services, finance, marketing, brand management, and hands-on harvest experience with key European partners.

Who are Hallgarten?

Hallgarten & Novum Wines is one of the UK’s leading specialist wine merchants, with over 90 years of experience in importing wines from around the world. We supply both the On and Off Trade sectors and are proud to be the Official Wine Supplier to prestigious events such as Ascot and Royal Ascot.

Our portfolio includes over 1,300 wines from more than 280 producers across 24 countries, featuring top producers from classic regions as well as emerging winegrowing areas. In 2023, we were recognized with several awards, including the International Wine Challenge ‘On Trade Supplier of the Year’.

What we are looking for:

  1. Bright and enthusiastic individuals with an interest in wine and the business of wine.
  2. Strong written and oral communication skills.
  3. Proactive, motivated, and ambitious individuals with high attention to detail and good organization skills.
  4. Experience in catering, hospitality, leisure, or wine retailing is advantageous.
  5. If not already qualified, the successful candidate will be required to pass WSET Levels 1 & 2 within 12 months and complete WSET Level 3 within 18 months of starting.
  6. Quick learner and good team player with an aptitude for hard work.
  7. IT literate.
  8. A second language would be useful but is not essential.
  9. Eligible to work in the UK.
  10. Willingness to travel and possess a valid driving license and passport.

The successful candidate will need to commute to Luton for the duration of the apprenticeship. The start date is September 2024.
