YOUR ROLE
Located in Paris and acting for HBCE (HSBC Continental Europe), the role holder supports HBCE CEO and HBCE Head of Strategy & Planning to drive execution of HSBC Group’s strategy, as well as to manage a range of various initiatives across risk, governance and growth for our region.
The role holder is responsible to clearly define execution priorities, and to ensure their delivery by driving business, risk, strategy, customer & ESG related initiatives, in conjunction with country CEOs and Lines of Business leaders.
Developing a successful working relationship with HBCE CEO and HBCE ExCo members, as well as managing a diverse (and sometimes ad-hoc) workload will be a key requirement.
The role holder reports to HBCE Head of Strategy & Planning and is expected to operate with autonomy and to lead initiatives. It is consequently essential for them to develop a broad personal network within HSBC and to drive a proactive agenda in a self-starting manner, with a flair for anticipation.
To be successful on this function, the selected candidate will handle the following key challenges :
- Complexity of external & internal environment, notably a wide range of businesses, countries, and cultures
- Complexity of internal matrix organization across Businesses, Geographies, and Functions, to ensure a clear path to actions and results in a diplomatic and collaborative way
- Regulatory complexity with both the oversight of HSBC Group’s principal regulators (PRA, FCA, ECB) and the changing environment and expectations of the banking industry
- Complex legal entity and governance structure management, ensuring the right outcomes for the region by informing and guiding colleagues on this complexity
- Strategic advisory to assist the CEO in navigating the bank through a period of unprecedented change and scrutiny in the banking industry
- Prioritization of effective execution for revenue growth, global standards implementation, ESG challenges and re-engineering for efficiency gains
Your actions will have a positive impact on our customers and stakeholders :
- Navigate across a complex range of senior internal and external stakeholders including all Businesses, Geographies, Functions, as well as regulators, unions and clients
- Operate with confidence and professionalism with the bank’s senior executives
- Ensure the customer is at the centre of the business, demonstrating an understanding of the different needs of customers across business lines and geographies
- Define and deploy strategic solutions required to meet clients’ needs
- Develop a deep understanding of the external context in the relevant markets, and the range of external governmental and regulatory stakeholders
You will also drive initiatives related to our market positioning :
- Work with the CEO HBCE to drive execution of the overall regional strategy, critical events, governance and manage the range of risks / challenges across HBCE
- Partner with the Businesses and the other critical stakeholders to analyse customers, sectors and Corridor trends to drive growth
- Partner with CoS HBCE, Global Businesses and Global Functions to deliver a ESG strategy and plan for HBCE, aligning to the ECB’s expectations
- Provide insights of key industry, economic and geopolitical developments on the Region’s overall strategy
- Where required, lead strategic HBCE projects to achieve growth and profitability objectives
- Delivery of HBCE CEO governance contributions including to HBEU EXCO, HBEU RMM and HBCE governance committees.
Requirements
- Executive management leadership ability
- Extensive knowledge of financial services businesses and operations obtained through significant executive management level experience
- Strategic planning, team building, business development, financial and risk management skills
- Knowledge of corporate governance requirements for banks
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in both English and French, the ability to work in another European language is a plus
- Strong interpersonal, organisational, negotiation and communication skills
- A proven track record of engaging senior stakeholders and using one’s personal network to overcome complex scenarios
- High cultural sensitivity and Emotional Intelligence
