Description:
This position is a part of the Non-Academic Staff Association (NASA). This position has an end date of July 31, 2025.

Location: Work primarily takes place at Campus Saint-Jean, Edmonton.

The position: Campus Saint-Jean is looking for a Transportation Coordinator / Driver to coordinate and deliver transportation at Campus Saint-Jean. As part of the Campus Saint-Jean transportation team, the incumbent leads transportation services for Campus Saint-Jean/University of Alberta students and staff to and from the Saint-Jean campus and the U of A main campus. The successful candidate will contribute to strategy and planning for CSJ Transportation Services and assist administrative leaders with procurement, vehicle pool matters and overall and daily operations. This particular position will be used as required, in order to support and offer relief and backup to the existing drivers.

Duties:

  • Drives the Campus Saint-Jean bus, providing safe and efficient transportation to Campus Saint-Jean students, employees and visitors.
  • Organizes transportation outside of the regular schedule for one-time trips, groups, and others at CSJ.
  • De-escalates conflict on the bus; exercises excellent judgement when choosing to involve law enforcement - U of A Protective Services, Edmonton City Police, etc.
  • Assists passengers with mobility issues in boarding and debarking.
  • Maintains logs of vehicle performance.
  • Performs vehicle inspection to ensure daily vehicle performance and safety including liquid level check, horn, lights, brake lights, back lights, all gauges, etc.
  • Maintains the physical cleanliness of the vehicle including interior cleaning and weekly exterior car washing.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma.
  • Fluent in both French and English – oral and written.
  • Excellent communication skills – conflict de-escalation, recognition of persons at risk, ability to create a positive and safe environment on the bus, ability to work with members of the senior leadership team (Dean’s Office) on strategy and planning projects.
  • Valid Class 2 Alberta Driver's Licence; held a valid operator's licence for the last 3 consecutive years.
  • Must provide a minimum 5-year Driver's Abstract showing no more than 3 demerits (or equivalent) and no more than 1 moving violation within 5 years and no past, or pending license suspensions nor Criminal Code suspensions or convictions.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age due to insurance requirements.
  • Must complete a UofA Vehicle Pool Driver Information and consent to obtain a Drivers Abstract.
  • Current Criminal Records Check (issued within the last six months), which will need to be obtained by a Policing Agency (CPS, EPS, RCMP, etc.) including vulnerable sector checks. Must have taken a recognized Defensive Driving Course within the last two years.
  • Must successfully complete a driving evaluation conducted by the University of Alberta.
  • Current First Aid certification and CPR training.
  • Crisis management training/experience, dangerous person, conflict de-escalation training is required.
  • A medical examination.

  • Good time management and organizational skills. Ability to work with data, keep records, and contribute to the overall leadership of CSJ bus services.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to offer excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability and experience/training to deal effectively with passengers with special needs including mobility issues, service dogs, etc.
  • Willing and committed to working collaboratively with members of Campus Saint-Jean to nurture and maintain a culture of trust, effectiveness, and execution.
