Area Benelux & France is part of the Maritime Region West Europe, consisting of a team of approximately 73 committed employees taking care of various technical services. These services are related to the following disciplines :
CMC - Certification of Materials and Components for vessels and offshore installations.
NB - New Building classification for vessels and offshore installations.
The Area is collaborating closely with the Regional FiS - Fleet in Service organization.
There are five office locations in the Area : Antwerp, Le Havre, Marseille, Saint-Nazaire, and Rotterdam. Besides this, several people are working from a home office to cover the geographical needs of our clients.
We aim to be the front-runner in innovation, digitalization, and customer-centricity. For various disciplines, new regimes are continuously introduced. Recent examples are electronic certificates, remote inspections, 3D printing, sensor-based maintenance, alternative fuels, and now heading towards the ships of the future shipping. Customer needs and footprint reduction are key elements in this.
We are looking for an Electrical Surveyor to join our NB team in France based in the Saint Nazaire Area. Main activities take place at Chantiers de l’Atlantique and other locations on the West coast of France.
Main responsibilities :
- Be part of DNV team(s) surveying our new building vessel project(s) in the country, including activities through all project phases and disciplines, from planning to close-out.
- Application and interpretation of International and Classification Rules and regulations related to the maritime industry.
- Perform work which involves conventional engineering practices but may include complex problems, such as the ability to identify conflicting integration designs in Electrical and automation systems for Maritime.
- Be responsible for, but not limited to, the electrical, automation, and navigation disciplines during the new building of the cruise vessel from a Classification point of view.
- Survey of material and components for the maritime industry in manufacturer’s facilities.
- Approval of drawings and documentation related but not limited to, Electrical and automation discipline.
- Work in close cooperation with and under the supervision of DNV Project Manager at the Yard.
- Effectively interact and consult clients for Rules and design aspects.
- Apply theoretical and practical engineering knowledge in problem-solving.
- Manage our clients together with other relevant parts of our organization.

Conditions of Employment :
Local terms and conditions. Contrat cadre Syntec. A company car is provided. Travel within the region & France is required.
Position Qualifications :
- MSc degree in electrical engineering / mechatronics. Alternatively, a degree or equivalent from the maritime institution in combination with proven seagoing experience as an Electrotechnical officer will be considered.
- Minimum 5 years’ work experience as an electrical engineer in a maritime or related sector. Experience as an electrical surveyor or sailing experience as an Electrical officer in Electric Propulsion vessels would be considered an advantage.
- Working knowledge of Instrumentation and Control engineering for the maritime industry.
- Experience related to shipbuilding projects, ideally Experience with Diesel Electric Cruise vessels or ferries.
- In-depth knowledge and experience in ship’s Electrical systems, High & Low voltage, Automation Systems such as Propulsion automation, Emergency Shut Down Systems, Gas Automation Systems, Power plant, and Machinery automation would be considered an advantage.
- Broad knowledge of SOLAS, International Standards, Classification Rules, and IEC standards would be considered as an advantage.
- Knowledge of Classification / Certification / Verification would be beneficial.
- Valid driving license.
- Problem-solving mindset towards our customers (internal and external clients).
- Very good communication skills, verbal and in writing in English.
- Good command of French language would be beneficial on a long-term perspective.
- Physical condition and ability to work at a shipyard (scaffolding, ladders, and enclosed spaces).
- Team player attitude with a positive mindset.
- Ability to work flexibly, independently, result-oriented, and self-organized.
