As a Technical Director for our Paris office, you will act as a leader in all aspects to our studio members and will be responsible for the proper deployment of staff to ensure the make-up of each project team suits each individual architecture and interior design projects’ specific needs and requirements. You should be passionate about all stages, from test fits to technical detailing and construction documentation. You will be experienced in handling the technical process, with excellent presentation and relationship building skills, and the ability to understand and interpret client needs and requirements.
You will have a good understanding of the end-to-end design process, commencing in the marketing phase through construction completion, and possess demonstrable international experience, having worked on a variety of projects.
A self-motivated team player with a positive, communicative and collaborative approach, the Technical Director will work in partnership with colleagues across Gensler’s practice areas not only in Paris but Firmwide, as well as with clients, vendors, consultants and stakeholders at all levels. You will have the knowledge and ability to provide guidance to less experienced members of the Architecture and Interiors teams, advising and supporting where necessary.
What You Will Do
- Work closely with Management and Lead Designers to direct the implementation of simultaneous projects
- Lead teams in detailed technical development of design and follow through
- Provide active technical development of the design and technical input during the preparation and execution of construction documents
- Mentor and teach junior members of the team
- Lead the technical aspects of the project team and oversee all phases
- Lead design teams towards a cohesive and rational technical solution which best meets the client’s brief and conforms to the project brief, ensuring technical, legal, and financial responsibility
- Responsible for making the technical team aware of current building legislation and the Quality Management System
- Interact and work with Clients to achieve design intentions of brief
Your Qualifications
- An undergraduate or master’s degree in Architecture, Architecture Technology, or Interior Design
- Significant, demonstrable experience of leading large teams to deliver projects through all stages including construction administration
- A strong design sensibility which leads to the enhancement of design through technical innovation and processes
- High level technical skills and experience in construction documents (drawing & specification) preparation
- Experience in full cycle construction administration on multiple projects
- Experience of working with firms in Workplace projects
- Must be highly proficient in Revit and AutoCAD
- Experience with international projects is an advantage
- Fluency in French & English

- Ability to create positive relationships with outside design firms and corporate clients and stakeholders – experience advising executives in global professional services and financial services firms
- Experience facilitating meetings with diverse stakeholders to reach consensus
- Experience in mentoring and developing junior employees
