About True North Sports CampsTrue North Sports Camps offers year-round sports programming for boys and girls ages 2 to 14 in Toronto, Etobicoke and Oshawa. We offer baseball, flag football, basketball, soccer, multi-sport and multi-sport with a hockey specialty summer day camps as well as after-school and weekend programs during the fall, winter and spring. Summer Camp DetailsCamp operates weekly in July and August from 8:30am – 4:00pm (with extended care from 8:00am until 5:00pm) Monday to Friday. This summer, camp will operate for 8 weeks (June 30 – August 22). We are hiring Camp Counsellors (Coaches) for the our Multi-Sport Camp in Oshawa at The Yard (870 Taunton Road West, Oshawa ON).
Work HoursYou will be required to be on-site July & August from 8:00am – 4:00pm Monday to Friday with a 30-minute unpaid break between the hours of 12:00pm – 1:00pm.
ResponsibilitiesCamp Counsellors (Coaches) will be responsible for leading a skill group, which includes providing outstanding instruction while fostering a fun and encouraging environment. Successful candidate’s responsibilities will be, but are not limited to, the following:
Pre-Camp (June)- Attendance and participation in mandatory staff training that is currently expected to occur the weekend of June 21/22, although this date is subject to change.
At Camp (July & August)- Leading a skill group:
- Ensuring all campers feel welcome and stay safe (well hydrated and protected from the sun)
- Prepare and execute lessons, drills and games from your skill group
- Complete weekly scouting reports for campers in your skill group
- Provide coaching instruction in a manner that takes individual differences in skill and learning styles into account
- Lead large group games and activities within your cohort - get involved with the campers!
- Follow camp-wide policies and procedures, (i.e., Hand sanitation, phones/tablets away during camp, regular headcounts, garbage pick-up, etc.)
- Participate in daily staff meetings
- Assist the Camp Directors in tracking and organizing camp equipment, supplies, t-shirts and prizes
- Some senior-level Coaches may be asked to supervise, mentor and evaluate a member of our Coach-in-Training Program
