The Ministry of Education, Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf in Belleville, Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch, require ASL-English Interpreters to provide interpreting services in educational and resource services programs for students and staff who do not share the same language or culture.

What can I expect to do in this role?

  • Provide interpreting services for Deaf students and staff in various settings;
  • Provide interpreting services for training sessions and workshops;
  • Availability to work on-call hours as required.

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in ASL-English Interpreting
  • Fluency in American Sign Language and English

Knowledge and Skills :

  • Ability to interpret in a wide range of formal, informal, educational and professional settings;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Professional Code of Ethics of the Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI);
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and knowledge of Deaf culture;
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a member of a team;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Experience interpreting in both small and large group settings.
