VFX Artist, Barcelona

Job Description

We believe that VFX is key to enhancing the visual presentation and gameplay dynamics of our games. As a member of the art team, you'll be working with the art director and your art lead creating visual special effects that push the boundaries of mobile games. Working with our proprietary engine, you will communicate with our technical department to further develop our VFX toolset. You will adapt your VFX to work on multiple mobile device platforms with an eye on optimisation when needed. Due to the diversity of our projects, you will have the opportunity to create a wide array of different VFX. This could be stylised VFX or photo-realistic VFX depending on the project.

1. Develop effects from R&D to final implementation in game.
2. Maintain a consistent art style working closely with your lead artist and art director.
3. Collaborate with design team to prototype and implement visual feedback for gameplay mechanics.
4. Coordinate with art and animation teams highlighting and expanding key visual elements in game levels or character animations.
5. Ensure that resulting effect is optimised for mobile development.
6. Scripting of game engine events, VFX and post processing.

Qualifications

1. At least 2 years of experience in a similar position.
2. Knowledge of visual effects techniques for creating realtime VFX in a 3D game engine.
3. Knowledge of industry standard game engines (Unreal, Unity, UDK, Cryengine).
4. Knowledge of game development.
5. Taking initiative and making creative inputs.
6. Ability to positively accept and apply feedback.
7. Willingness to work with in-house tools and advance the development of our proprietary game engine.
8. Adaptability and willingness to apply yourself to different styles of VFX.

Assets:

1. Experience creating particle systems and VFX in 3D packages (Maya, Blender, Houdini or 3DSMax).
2. Experience with VFX techniques and plugins for 3D software packages (Rayfire, Krakatoa, FumeFX, Afterburn, Maya Fluids).
3. Expertise in GLSL or HLSL would be beneficial.
4. Previous experience in mobile game development would be a plus.
5. Some experience with animation will also be a plus.
