We are looking for a Senior Cloud Ops Engineer freelancer to join the Data team at vpTech. As a Cloud Engineer in Veepee’s data organisation, you will be part of our data organisation. Veepee’s data organisation came into existence in 2018 and consists of a strong team of 40-50 data professionals, spread across different data domains (engineering, analytics, data science & ML, and governance). You will be part of a multi-disciplinary, multinational team that fosters collaboration, transparency, respect, and of course... a good amount of fun in the working environment.

Responsibilities:

1. Collaborate with our data engineers to maintain and optimise our APIs
2. Work together with data scientists to create workflows for deploying machine learning pipelines and models into production
3. Help improve the deployment process in a GitOps style
4. Maintain and monitor the health of microservices deployed on K8s
5. Configure & maintain GCP services (e.g., Cloud Storage, Bigtable, Cloud SQL, etc.) with Terraform and Atlantis tooling
6. Collaborate with developers to optimise GCP usage and create the tools to do so (e.g., cost tracking, staying up to date with security patches)
7. Educate and support teams in Reliability Engineering practices.

Requirements:

1. You are an expert in public cloud environments, preferably the Google Cloud Platform. In the case of AWS or Azure experience, a strong willingness to learn GCP is a prerequisite.
2. You are familiar with Helm charts to describe Kubernetes resources.
3. You are aware of GitOps workflows for deploying on Kubernetes, preferably using ArgoCD.
4. You are familiar with the concept of Infrastructure As Code and tools like Terraform.
5. You are familiar with Git and CI/CD tooling.
6. You have experience in using monitoring solutions for logging, metrics collection, and dashboarding (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, Stackdriver).
7. You are a strong team player.
8. You love helping people, solving issues, and gaining energy in doing so.
9. You are not afraid to work the extra mile to solve a production issue when it pops up.
10. You like to work in an environment where you are given a lot of responsibility.
