Job Purpose
The SENDCO at Hamelin-Laie International School will play a pivotal role in creating, developing, and leading the school’s new Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Department. This role will be responsible for fostering an inclusive culture across the school, ensuring that all students with additional needs are supported to reach their full potential. The SENDCO will offer strategic leadership, training, and guidance to both staff and school leaders, while promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities
Establish and lead a new SEND Department at Hamelin-Laie, setting strategic objectives in line with the school's vision and values.
Promote and embed a culture of inclusion, respect, and understanding throughout the school community.
Provide training and coaching for teachers and support staff on best practices in supporting students with SEND.
Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with SEND, ensuring SMART targets and regular reviews.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEND provision across the school, using data and feedback to inform improvements.
Qualifications / Training
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent. (Essential)
SENDCO qualification or willingness to undertake the qualification. (Essential)
Experience / Knowledge
Proven experience working as a SENDCO or in a similar role, with experience of leading SEND provision in an educational setting. (Essential)
Strong knowledge of SEND legislation, best practices, and inclusive teaching strategies. (Essential)
Experience in creating Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and monitoring progress. (Essential)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. (Essential)
Proven ability to train, mentor, and support staff in developing inclusive teaching practices. (Essential)
Experience working in an international school setting. (Desirable)
Knowledge of relevant local legislation and statutory requirements related to SEND. (Desirable)
Familiarity with using data to monitor progress and drive improvement. (Desirable)
