Finance Manager - Spain

Department: Finance

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Location: Spain

Reporting To: Toni Martinez

A bit about Field

Field is an international builder, owner, and operator of renewable infrastructure. Founded by a successful entrepreneur, we have robust BESS project pipelines across the UK, Italy, Spain, and Germany, backed by a recent £200 million investment from DIF Capital Partners. Our mission is to grow internationally and develop a strong global BESS portfolio.

We are an eclectic team with diverse backgrounds, from scaling billion-dollar tech startups to building energy companies and specializing in energy markets. You'll work with fun, curious, entrepreneurial people making a real impact. We're proving batteries are a viable energy solution now. Our ambitious plans include becoming Europe's leading clean energy player and expanding beyond batteries into new assets.

Your Mission

The Finance Manager role is a critical role for scaling Field in Spain. You will be the first in our finance function within a small but rapidly growing team headed by our Spanish General Manager. You will also be responsible for overall finance operations, working closely with the Central UK finance team and other international finance colleagues to set up the finance function, manage a rapidly growing portfolio of project entities through their development, construction and operating phases of our grid scale infrastructure assets and of course more generally help to keep the commercial team moving.

Key Responsibilities

This is a broad and varied role which will be instrumental in supporting our continued business growth in this exciting new industry across Spain. You will manage all of the key financial processes for the Spanish legal entities.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage internal management accounting processes (banking, payroll, month-end close).
  • Group reporting under IFRS, including audit support.
  • Prepare financial information for internal and external stakeholders, including lenders and regulators.
  • Work closely with local advisors to deliver local GAAP and regulatory tax submissions.
  • Set up financial controls and drive process improvement.
  • Expertise in implementing financial control processes.
  • Proficiency in financial systems (preferably NetSuite).
  • Experience working in fast-growing and rapidly changing environments.
  • Coordinate budgeting and financial planning for the Spanish business.
  • Collaborate with FP&A teams to ensure proper allocation and forecasting.
  • Assist with financial analysis of projects / assets.
  • Coordinate and support the establishment of new entities (company registration, notaries, digital signatures).
  • Manage the issuance and administration of guarantees (grid bonds, performance guarantees).
  • Oversee legal compliance processes in financial operations.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with local and international teams (Commercial, Treasury, FP&A, Procurement, Legal).
  • Work with senior leadership and stakeholders to ensure financial transparency and compliance.
  • Support M&A processes, project financing, and due diligence management.
  • Build effective relationships with subsidiaries and headquarters.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

A bit about you

  • You’re very organised - you’ll be spinning a few plates at once, so you’ll need to have tried and tested methods for keeping on top of a varied workload and making sure you always adhere to strict internal deadlines.
  • You’re technically astute with strong analytical skills, leveraging this to challenge the status quo and drive continuous improvements.
  • You’re a candid and effective communicator who builds professional relationships based on trust and transparency.
  • You’re collaborative and flexible, well used to coordinating activities across multiple teams to make sure work is delivered in full, on time.
  • You’re enthusiastic, curious and (ideally) knowledgeable about the energy storage industry (but don’t worry, we’re a team of experts here so you’ll have plenty of people to learn from if this is a new area for you).

Experience and skills we look for:

  • Proven track record in fast-growing and rapidly changing environments.
  • Background in multi-entity group businesses, with a strong knowledge of IFRS and local GAAP and tax legislation.
  • Expertise in setting up and implementing financial control processes.
  • Proficiency in financial systems (familiarisation with Netsuite is preferable).
  • Fluent and confident with both written and spoken English.
  • Experience in infrastructure, energy, finance, construction or related sectors.
  • Knowledge of Spanish taxation system complexities.

Job Benefits

We’re offering a competitive compensation package, including participation in our employee share scheme which rewards all employees for the growth of the business. You’ll be awarded shares when you join, which will vest over four years - and as the business grows in size and value, so will your shares!

We value our team’s wellbeing and belonging so we invest approx €5,000 a year on a range of perks, benefits and wellbeing activities, including regular team socials and events.

Other benefits include:

  • Up to 10% Company wide bonus based on company performance.
  • Hybrid working (blend of home and office working to suit individual needs).
  • 2,000 per year to spend on your professional development.
  • 1 month work from anywhere, for those with a travel bug.
  • 1 day green leave to do something good for the environment.
  • Funded team fun, a chance to get to know your teammates at regular events like team lunches, after work socials and quarterly get togethers.
  • Global gatherings twice a year to get to know your international teammates.

Our Values

  • Work for the team - We are friendly and approachable. We make time for each other, value diverse perspectives, and learn and grow together.
  • Do it right - We prioritise doing things right, never cutting corners. Safety comes first, and we consider our impact on communities and the environment. We act with integrity always.
