Role

We are currently looking for an experienced corporate sustainability consultant who brings expertise in strategic sustainability advisory, EU green standards, and ESG-related projects in Spain and internationally. The focus of the role is to support the growth of our climate change and sustainability business in Spain and our local team in Madrid, as well as contributing to the successful delivery of projects across Europe.

The person will be involved in the following tasks:

  1. Setting the vision and priorities for Arup’s Spain business in the Corporate Sustainability Services market.
  2. Increasing Arup’s work on sustainability consultancy projects across existing and new clients to secure a strong pipeline of work.
  3. Leading delivery of advisory on strategy, decarbonisation, biodiversity, supply chain, etc., ensuring the quality of the work delivered and developing the appropriate team skillset.

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree qualified in a relevant discipline such as Environmental Sciences, Biology/Ecology, Engineering (chemistry, agronomist, industrial), Architecture, etc.
  • Understanding of global, European and national biodiversity objectives and commitments, with a focus on their business impact.
  • Experience in developing biodiversity strategies for projects and at a corporate level, proposing specific objectives and measures with nature-based solutions.
  • Experience in developing measures to promote or restore biodiversity, especially for urban projects or those linked to the development of industrial or infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of voluntary sustainability frameworks such as the 2030 Agenda (SDG), CDP, ISO 26000 and TCFD (climate change) or TNFD (nature) recommendations for the reporting and quantification of risks and opportunities, and their financial impact.
  • To be able to provide advice on the design and implementation of corporate sustainability strategies, linked to the real estate and infrastructure sector (urban services, transportation, renewable energies).
  • Knowledge of reference sustainability reporting frameworks at a European or global level: CSRD (ESRS), EU Taxonomy, Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), GRI, SASB, among others.
  • Knowledge of other recent European regulations on sustainability such as chain of activities (value chain and supply chain), circular economy, climate change, packaging and packaging waste, energy efficiency, etc.
  • Previous experience in managing and achieving building sustainability certifications and standards such as LEED, BREEAM, WELL, GRESB, etc.
  • Design and implementation of double materiality analysis, reporting systems and Sustainability dashboards, including the definition of KPIs.
  • Calculation and verification of the organizations' carbon footprint (scopes 1, 2, 3), knowledge about science-based targets (SBTs) and scope 4 (avoided emissions).
  • High Level of written and spoken skills in English and Spanish.

Client Relationship Skills

  • Good customer orientation with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in preparing public offers and tenders (at European and national level).
  • Experience in organizing and moderating workshops for sustainability strategies and in training corporate teams on sustainability.
  • Project Management Skills.
