Job opening for Scientist (Biochemistry & Biophysics) at Nuage Therapeutics

Nuage Therapeutics is a biotech company, spin-off of the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB) Barcelona and ICREA. Nuage Tx develops potent and selective drugs targeting disease-related proteins with disordered regions considered undruggable to date, exploiting cutting-edge knowledge in biomolecular condensation.

We are looking for a motivated Scientist with experience in biochemical and biophysical characterization of biomolecules. Strong communication skills to work in an interdisciplinary team, ability to design and execute experimental plans, and high capacity to interpret and present scientific data is required. Proficiency in English is indispensable.

The Scientist will be a member of the Nuage Tx’s R&D team, report to the Head of Technology, and receive scientific guidance from Nuage Tx experts in the corresponding areas.

Key duties:

1. Design, coordinate and execute experimental plans to perform biochemical characterization of the mechanism of action of small molecule ligands binding to intrinsically disordered proteins.
2. Analyse and interpret experimental data, draw well-supported conclusions with the help of scientific literature and internal know-how, and prepare recommendations for follow-up studies.
3. Document the experiments in an electronic lab notebook and prepare specific reports as requested.
4. Visualize data in a comprehensible manner and communicate it to the multidisciplinary scientific team. Present to and discuss with experts and prepare summaries of the relevant discussions.
5. Assist the rest of the scientific team ad hoc with executing experimental plans, analysing, interpreting, and presenting data as requested.
6. Prepare recommendations for the experimental strategy and assist in building the plans for completing the biochemical characterization of the mechanism of action of small molecule ligands.
7. Stay updated on scientific advances in the relevant fields by reading literature and attending scientific and industry conferences. Provide summaries and recommendations based on the obtained knowledge.

Requirements and selection criteria:

1. PhD in biochemistry, biophysics, or another relevant field.
2. 3+ years of experience (post-PhD) in a biomedical laboratory on characterization of proteins and mechanism of action of small molecules. Work experience in the private sector will be positively valued.
3. Extensive experience and knowledge in biochemistry and biophysics:

• Techniques used to characterize macromolecules and small molecules including nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry, chromatography, and others.
• Knowledge on characterization of intrinsically disordered proteins.
• Techniques used to produce recombinantly expressed proteins of high purity, including expression of isotopically labelled proteins.
