Job Description:

Context and Mission

The Atmospheric Composition group from the Earth Science department at the BSC-CNS searches for one junior research support engineer willing to work on the development of spatial and temporal emission proxies for atmospheric modelling purposes. The position will support new developments in national and international projects to improve and update current available emission temporal profiles, construct global point source emission databases for key polluting industrial sectors and estimate their associated uncertainty. The successful applicant will work closely with providers of emission and activity data at the global and European level.

Key Duties

• Collection, processing and geoprocessing of activity data with scripting
• Development of spatial and temporal emission proxies
• Development and assessment of emission estimation methodologies
• Analysis, benchmarking and inter-comparison of emission inventories
• Estimation of emission uncertainties
• Interact with atmospheric composition scientists to understand and respond to their needs

• Education
  • A graduate degree in the physical sciences or engineering (Chemistry, Meteorology, Physics, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering), Master in Environmental Engineering or similar
• Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
  • Experience with emission inventory development or similar field will be valued
  • Experience with GIS data and tools
  • Experience in programming in Python and R
• Competences
  • Very good interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in English
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize and work under set deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team

• The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department
