Shape a future with purpose at Arup in Spain

Achieve acoustics that suit the space

Arup’s purpose, shared values, and collaborative approach have set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

We have been present in Spain since 1993 and we have a team of more than 300 engineers, consultants, and qualified technical personnel. We work for clients from the public and private sectors, providing creative and sustainable solutions based on the efficient use of resources.

Our team works across a wide range of acoustic environments, whether it’s developing an incredible acoustic experience in concert halls or managing environmental noise from industrial infrastructure.

We take a people-centric, sensory approach to design, carefully considering the function of each individual space inside buildings, as well as the impact of buildings and transport systems on their surroundings (and vice-versa).

We combine insights from designers and advisors experienced in a wide range of project types, bringing cross-disciplinary and cross-market innovation to our work. Collaborating with our audio-visual and theatre consulting teams we can also plan, design and integrate all the necessary infrastructure and systems into our solutions.

And we have an in-house immersive installation to perform demonstrations of acoustic and virtual recreation in 360º that we use to assist with the design of our projects.

The Opportunity

This is your chance to join the acoustics team, an area dedicated to engineering offering acoustic consulting services, for example in office buildings, concert halls, stadiums, outdoor spaces, etc.

As an Acoustics Trainee at Arup, you will participate in:

  • Data Analysis: Analysing acoustic data collected from field measurements and simulations to identify patterns and issues.
  • Report Preparation: Assisting in the preparation of technical reports, including documenting findings and recommendations.
  • Modelling and Simulations: Using acoustic modelling software to simulate sound propagation and assess the impact of noise in different environments.
  • Project Support: Providing support on various projects, including environmental impact assessments and noise control solutions.
  • Learning and Development: Continuously learning about new technologies, regulations, and best practices in the field of acoustics.
  • Support in the realization of digital audio processing for acoustic auralisation.
  • Creation of virtual environments with models, Unreal, Rhino, Unity, etc.

  • A special interest in architectural acoustics and audio signal processing.
  • Knowledge of Matlab or similar, Unity, Audacity, Audition or similar.
  • Experience in creating virtual reality models: Unreal, Rhino, Unity.

Bonus points if you have:

Knowledge of virtual reality.
