WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Santander Alternatives Investments is looking for a REGULATORY LEGAL ADVISER based in our MADRID office.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Legal Adviser to join us within the fast-growing Alternatives division of SAM. As part of the Legal team dedicated to the Alternatives division, you'll be at the forefront of legal advisory, deal structuring, implementation of recommended legal and regulatory guidelines, and helping improve the control framework and general oversight within the Alternatives division - primarily focusing on legal support of various financing solutions on a cross-asset and cross-jurisdictional basis.

This is a key role supporting a diverse range of matters reporting into the Head of Legal for the Alternatives business, with a primary focus on regulatory and corporate governance. Such matters include some or all of the following:

1. Support and attend board and committee meetings, coordinate with multiple stakeholders to ensure requirements are addressed, take and prepare minutes/resolutions, and advise on corporate governance matters.
2. Improve corporate governance through the development of best practices, develop policies and procedures in conjunction with Risk & Compliance, and attend to matters to improve the control framework for the Alternatives business.
3. Provide legal assistance to help facilitate the growth of the Alternatives business, which includes supporting product development, structuring, marketing, and distribution of investment by AIFs cross-border cross strategy.
4. Contribute to the development of processes and best practices to streamline further activity in an efficient and legally compliant manner.
5. Keep senior management and other personnel appraised of pertinent legal and regulatory developments.
6. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team helping to provide industry legal knowledge and experience.

EXPERIENCE

Qualified solicitor/lawyer with a minimum of 5 years working either in a law firm or a financial institution with regulatory exposure. Given the priority focus on corporate governance, a strong background in supporting board/committee meetings is a must with excellent organization and communication skills. Spanish speaker required. Results-driven, adaptable, and commercially pragmatic lawyer able to project manage initiatives to conclusion within the risk and compliance framework of SAM. Excellent interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication skills with the ability to draft resolutions capturing key concepts for good governance. Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with a flexible and adaptive approach to work.

University degree in Law
