Exciting Opportunity: Principal Consultant & HAZOP Facilitator – Barcelona

We are seeking a Principal Consultant & Digital HAZOP Facilitator to join our Risk Management Consulting team in Barcelona. Our team partners with clients to identify, manage, and mitigate risks across high-risk, capital-intensive industries, ensuring operational safety, regulatory compliance, and resilience in an evolving energy landscape.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will:

  1. Lead and innovate: Contribute to the development of our Digital HAZOP Software (HAZOP Assistant) and deliver cutting-edge digital HAZOPs for both new and existing operations.
  2. Facilitate key safety reviews: Lead process safety and operability workshops, including HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, BowTie, FMEA, alarm management, and SIMOPS for major industrial projects.
  3. Identify and manage major hazards: Assess Major Accident Hazards (MAH), Major Accident Events (MAEs), and Safety & Environmental Critical Elements (SECEs) to develop robust performance standards.
  4. Lead risk and safety assessments: Oversee Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA), fire and explosion safety studies, structural integrity analyses, ESSA & EERA assessments, and more.
  5. Apply advanced risk modelling: Manage consequence modelling (2D / 3D), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and RAM studies to enhance safety and reliability.
  6. Provide strategic consultancy: Guide clients on Process Safety Management (PSM), HSE systems, emergency preparedness, and emergency response planning.
  7. Ensure compliance & best practices: Conduct third-party verifications and audits to uphold industry regulations and safety standards.

What We’re Looking For

To thrive in this role, you should have:

  1. A master’s degree in engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  2. 10+ years of experience in oil & gas, petrochemicals, or the energy sector, ideally in process engineering, risk management, or safety consultancy.
  3. Expertise in process safety and risk management across greenfield and brownfield projects.
  4. Proven experience in functional safety, including HAZOP, SIL, FMEA, BowTie, and alarm management facilitation.
  5. Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks (e.g., Seveso / COMAH, Offshore Safety) and industry standards.
  6. Experience in developing and implementing Safety Management Systems & Emergency Response Plans (preferred).
  7. Knowledge of green hydrogen, ammonia facilities, and offshore oil & gas (a plus).
  8. Fluency in Spanish and English (a third language is a bonus).
  9. Willingness to travel for project delivery as needed.
  10. A collaborative mindset, with the ability to mentor and develop junior consultants.
  11. Familiarity with process simulation and digital twin technologies (advantageous).
