Postdoctoral Researcher (Ref. Postdoc 2025-02 JB)

The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work in Dr. Jose Berrocal’s research group. This position will be funded by ERC StG and PID.

ICIQ is looking for a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to work in the group of Dr. Jose Berrocal. The successful candidate will work on the synthesis and mechanical characterization of photo- and mechano-responsive polymer materials.

Responsibilities

• Thermal and mechanical characterization of polymer materials with dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), tensile testing, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA)
• Assist the supervisor in the daily supervision of the PhD students
• Synthesis of small molecules to be used for sensing applications
• Study the photo- and mechano-responsive behavior of polymers with setups combining microtensile testing and optical probes measuring transmittance spectra
• Production of written reports and presentations to update the group/supervisor

Requirements

• PhD in Chemistry or Materials Science
• Level of English equal to B2 or higher
• Prior experience with small repairs of laboratory instrumentation
• Ability to work independently and in teams

We offer:

• A 3-year full-time position.
• Remuneration according to individual’s qualifications/experience
• Annual salary split in twelve monthly payments

Selection Process

ICIQ’s selection process usually entails the following phases:

• Pre-selection: The pre-selection process will be based on qualifications and expertise as reflected in the candidates’ CVs. This phase is merit-based.
• Interview: Preselected candidates will be interviewed by the Hiring Manager of the position and the appointed Selection Committee.
• Offer Letter: Once the successful candidate is selected, the People Unit will extend a Job Offer, specifying the start day, salary and overall job conditions.
