The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work in Dr. Jose Berrocal’s research group. This position will be funded by ERC StG and PID.

ICIQ is looking for a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to work in the group of Dr. Jose Berrocal. The successful candidate will work on the synthesis and mechanical characterization of photo- and mechano-responsive polymer materials.
Responsibilities
Thermal and mechanical characterization of polymer materials with dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), tensile testing, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA)
Assist the supervisor in the daily supervision of the PhD students
Synthesis of small molecules to be used for sensing applications
Study the photo- and mechano-responsive behavior of polymers with setups combining microtensile testing and optical probes measuring transmittance spectra
Production of written reports and presentations to update the group/supervisor
Requirements
PhD in Chemistry or Materials Science
Level of English equal to B2 or higher
Prior experience with small repairs of laboratory instrumentation
Ability to work independently and in teams
Valued qualities:
Willingness to undergo a robust training in soft skills and mentoring
Active participation in discussion meetings and brainstorming sessions
Willingness to coach/collaborate with PhD students
Willingness to contribute to project writing
We offer:
A 3-year full-time position.
Remuneration according to individual’s qualifications/experience
Annual salary split in twelve monthly payments
Incorporation: May 2025.
Selection Process
ICIQ’s selection process usually entails the following phases:
Pre-selection: The pre-selection process will be based on qualifications and expertise as reflected in the candidates’ CVs. This phase is merit-based.
Interview: Preselected candidates will be interviewed by the Hiring Manager of the position and the appointed Selection Committee.
Offer Letter: Once the successful candidate is selected, the People Unit will extend a Job Offer, specifying the start day, salary and overall job conditions.
