PHP Developer

Role overview

We are looking for a back end developer, with experience in PHP, to work in an existing scrum team based in Gran Canaria, supporting a UK charity.

If you are passionate about writing quality code and want to work in a friendly collaborative team and be continually learning using the latest technologies this could be the perfect position for you.

What will you be doing?

You’ll be working as a web developer in a small scrum team of developers with a Project Lead.

You’ll be working on new web based platforms for a UK educational charity. The sites are built in PHP (Laravel 9) with a React front end & database in MySQL. You will be working mainly in the back end team but occasionally writing front end code.

Code quality is important to us so you will write tests, participate in pair programming and code reviews with colleagues on a daily basis. You will also participate in the sprint planning, stand ups and all scrum ceremonies.

On a typical day you might find yourself:

• refactoring tests to bring them in line with new functionality
• redefining an API starting with the documentation
• collaborating via code reviews to make sure our code meets our quality requirements.

Skills and experience

In a perfect world, you have:

• Experience developing web applications in PHP Laravel.
• Some experience of React would be a bonus but not essential.
• Working experience in HTML, CSS, JS, Databases, GIT.
• Our team is from Spain and the client is in the UK so it is essential you can communicate well in English.

And we would be really thrilled if you also have:

• Experience of the whole web development cycle from coding to QA to deployment.
• Prior experience developing on an Agile team environment.
• Experience writing tests in PHP Unit.
• React (desirable) or any other frontend (JavaScript / TypeScript) libraries.
