Research Scientist
- Full-time position
- Barcelona, Spain
We are Zoundream, a dynamic, growing, and ambitious startup developing the world's most advanced technology for infant voice analysis, powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and sound recognition.
Our team has a solid background in Machine Learning and embedded systems, and our mature core technology has already led to an award-winning product already launched in the market. Currently, we are expanding our Research and Development (R&D) team to reinforce a groundbreaking project aimed at supporting early detection of pathologies and neurodevelopmental conditions through infant voice analysis. With ongoing projects in collaboration with multiple large corporate customers and hospitals worldwide, we are seeking a proactive, versatile, autonomous, and motivated Research Scientist to join our R&D team.
What You Will Do
You will play a key role in advancing and refining our cutting-edge technology for analyzing infant voice, with a focus on enabling early detection of health issues. Your key responsibilities will include (but are not limited to) :
Data Analysis
- Designing and conducting large-scale data analysis research in signal processing to support product development (e.g., database management, data annotation, data wrangling).
- Developing algorithms and performing exploratory analysis in Python or other programming languages (e.g., R, MATLAB, SPSS) to analyze data and extract meaningful insights.
- Leveraging statistical and Machine Learning / Deep Learning techniques to refine and enhance technology, resulting in more accurate and insightful audio analysis.
- Effectively communicating findings and insights to diverse audiences using impactful visualizations.
Scientific research
- Planning, designing, and executing rigorous scientific studies to support existing literature, research and product development.
- Writing and publishing scientific papers, grant proposals, patent applications, technical / analytical reports and posters, and presenting findings at conferences and scientific events.
- Promoting the dissemination of educational and marketing content based on science to enhance brand credibility and engagement.
- Establishing and managing the Scientific Advisory Board, including recruiting members, organizing events, and facilitating meetings to drive collaboration.
Clinical research
- Engaging in proactive collaboration with hospitals, research institutions, healthcare providers, regulatory bodies, and consultants (e.g., FDA, CRO) to promote research initiatives and ensure the successful execution of clinical trials.
- Ensuring strict adherence to regulatory, ethical, and quality assurance guidelines, as well as global standards and compliance processes throughout clinical trials and medical device development (e.g., GDPR, ISO, QMS, GCP).
- Designing and managing clinical trials, including the preparation and oversight of associated documentation and processes (e.g., protocols, informed consent forms, patient safety measures, IRB guidelines).
- Overseeing and monitoring the progress and quality of multicentric clinical trials using EDC tools such as Castor or REDCap.
- Collaborating cross-functionally with data scientists, engineers, software developers, and external partners to align research objectives with product development goals.
- Participating in scientific and industry events to identify emerging research trends and explore potential partnerships that facilitate the successful integration of our technology into healthcare systems.
Which Skills Are We Looking For
Research & Technical Expertise :
- Master's degree in Bioengineering, Neuroscience, Neuropsychology, Biostatistics, Data Science or related fields. PhD is a plus.
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar position.
- Fluency in English (both written and spoken) is required.
- Advanced experience in signal processing (audio, video, EEG, NIRS and / or eye tracking analysis).
- Strong proficiency in Python, MATLAB, R, or similar tools, and experience with statistics, ML and DL frameworks.
- Experience with large-scale data management, data annotation and data analysis projects.
- Skill in interpreting scientific data, identifying patterns crucial for clinical research and innovation, and communicating findings.
- Strategic thinking to assess potential research trends and partnerships that align with Zoundream’s long-term objectives.
- Strong skills in meticulously drafting clinical and scientific documentation adhering to scientific standards.
Clinical Knowledge (desirable) :
- Ability to autonomously and reliably handle ambitious research projects and clinical studies, with strong skills in communication and collaboration with third parties, especially in a multicentric clinical trial or hospital settings.
- Experience in preparing regulatory and compliant reports and documentation, clinical protocols, informed consents, and statistical analysis plans, among others.
- Desirable background in medical device technology. Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., FDA regulations, CE marking) is a plus.
- Innovative thinking with a track record of proposing and executing new ideas in healthcare or medical device integration.
