We are looking for skilled design engineers to join our design team within the real estate development business, focusing on boutique hospitality assets.

This role requires a creative and technical professional who can deliver efficient and innovative engineering solutions while maintaining the aesthetic and functional standards expected in luxury developments.

In this role, you will be responsible for design development of luxury villas and boutique hotels engineering systems. You should be able to work independently throughout the day, coordinate with the team when needed, and deliver intermediate results weekly. You will report to a MEP design manager, but collaborate with the entire design team, including but not limited to architects, interior designers, structural engineers, the FF&E procurement team, and client representatives.

We expect you to have experience in RIBA stages 1-4 design development, including early engineering studies, different calculations and forecasts of future project’s consumption and other engineering needs, development of schematic, detailed design, tender documentation and formal design submissions (“Projecte Executiu”).

To succeed in this role, you should have excellent communication and presentation skills, be punctual, detail-oriented, intelligent, and motivated to deliver results.

Expertise in local Catalonian building codes, engineering and fire safety requirements is crucial for this position.

  • This is a part-time day job with expected involvement up to 20 hours a week.
  • This is a remote job, but we expect a candidate to be within reach of Barcelona.
  • We work normal central European time zone (CET) working hours 9-17 or 10-18, and we expect you to participate in daily team meetings.

Responsibilities

  1. Design engineering systems for luxury villas and boutique hotels, ensuring compliance with local building codes and industry standards.
  2. Collaborate closely with architects, interior designers, and other engineers to integrate systems seamlessly into the overall project.
  3. Lead the development of detailed drawings, technical documentation, and system specifications using CAD and BIM tools, with the support of BIM modelers.
  4. Perform load calculations, energy modeling, and system sizing to optimize performance and energy efficiency.
  5. Oversee equipment selection, ensuring it aligns with project requirements and sustainability goals.
  6. Conduct site visits and inspections during construction to ensure adherence to design specifications and address any technical challenges.
  7. Provide input during value engineering discussions to achieve the best balance between cost, quality, and performance.
  8. Stay updated on the latest technologies, trends, and regulations related to HVAC systems in the luxury and hospitality sectors.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Building Engineering with a concentration in HVAC, Electric, or Plumbing.
  2. 5 to 8 years of experience in design consultancy or general contracting.
  3. Experience working on low-rise residential and hospitality projects - private homes and villas, hotels, and resorts.
  4. Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  5. Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
  6. Professional level of English and Spanish, both written and verbal.
