The role
This role is ideal for someone passionate about shaping health data and data governance. While some tasks may involve data analysis, the focus is on policy, research, and strategy in the data space particularly in the health data ecosystem. You will be working on the design, definition, planning and implementation of health data governance strategies, supporting Spain’s implementation of the European Health Data Space (EHDS), as well as contributing to projects that support the broader European health data initiatives in applying policy and data stewardship practices on real-world evidence, and digital health.
As a Research Consultant, you will be part of a multidisciplinary, dynamic, and growing team in Barcelona, working in a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment. You will have the opportunity to engage with leading experts, policymakers, and stakeholders across Europe, contributing to projects that help shape the future of health data use and regulation.
Key responsibilities:
- Conducting desk research tasks within projects (e.g., systematic and scoping literature reviews)
- Conducting quantitative research tasks (e.g. developing data collection plans)
- Writing research and consulting reports in English for different audiences
- Developing professional and clear presentations
- Providing guidance and feedback to research assistants
- Supporting Senior Research consultants and Managers in their tasks
- Contributing actively to team meetings, sharing your perspective and your insights in your work and the work of others across the company
Required skills and experience
- Knowledge or experience on data governance / management (e.g DAMA certificate)
- A strong academic background, at least to Master’s degree level, in a relevant topic (engineering, physics, maths, life sciences, or a related discipline)
- 1-3 years of experience for in a similar role (e.g. consulting firm, research institution, university, think-tank)
- Knowledge and experience of both quantitative and qualitative approaches
- Proven ability to manage tasks to timescale with supervision
- Competence with reference management software (Papers, Zotero, Mendeley etc)
- Competency with MS Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Critical thinking and ability to synthesise a range of evidence
- Enthusiasm and knowledge about the topics we work on
- Commitment to an open and collaborative team atmosphere
- Fluency in English and Spanish (minimum C1 level)
- Desirable: Fluency in one or more European languages other than English
Data management and technical skills
- Hands-on experience with data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes
- Proficiency with SQL-based database systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL, etc.)
- Understanding of data architecture and data pipelines, including the data life cycle (collection, storage, processing, analysis, and archiving)
- Familiarity with data governance frameworks and best practices (e.g., GDPR compliance, data quality standards)
- Experience with data integration and orchestration tools (e.g., Talend, Pentaho, Apache Airflow)
- Basic knowledge of cloud-based data solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) for storage and processing
- Ability to implement and monitor data quality checks and validation processes
Health Data Interoperability and Standards
- Basic understanding of health data interoperability frameworks and standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR)
- Familiarity with observational health data models and ontologies (e.g., OMOP, SNOMED, ICD)
- Appreciation of best practices in the management and governance of health data, including privacy and security considerations
What we offer
- Salary: 28.000 – 32.000 EUR gross / year (FTE) plus an array of benefits, including office lunch, complementary refreshments and a bonus scheme
- Location: Barcelona. Please note that appointments will require having the right to work in the EU

- Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week)
