We are looking for an experimental optical engineer with a startup mindset to develop interferometric benchtop setups and to characterize and integrate optical components in optical modules. The main objective is to develop optical modules for Inmersia’s near-eye display.
What you will do
- Build and align optical benchtop systems, incorporating refractive and diffractive optical elements as well as optoelectronic components for interferometric systems and testing setups.
- Characterize optical performance parameters of proprietary and external optical elements and optoelectronic components.
- Support the integration of optical elements into optical modules.
- Manage the optics lab equipment, stock, and inventory of materials.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards in the optics lab, including handling class 3 lasers.
What technical skills you have
- 3+ years of experience in building benchtop optical setups.
- Familiarity with using class 3 lasers.
- Practical experience with high-precision alignment and interferometric setups.
- Experience working with small optoelectronic components for consumer electronics such as micro displays, cameras, light sources, and light modulators.
- Theoretical and practical understanding of refractive and diffractive optics.
- Basic experience with working in clean rooms, with a glove box, or a laminar flow hood.
- Experience integrating optical components in modules with small tolerances.
- Knowledge about laser safety standards and their implementation.
What education you have
- 3 years of experience in a relevant industry and a Master’s degree in Optics, Physics, or similar.
- A PhD degree in Optics, Physics, or similar with a focus on optical design or interferometry.
- Professional working level of English.
What personal qualities you have
- High personal and professional integrity.
- Good listening skills and open-mindedness to feedback and new ideas.
- Ability to work in a team and collaborate with external partners.
- Innovative and creative vision to identify new solutions to existing challenges.
