The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in five programs: Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health; Environment and Health over the Lifecourse; Global Viral and Bacterial Infections; Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases and Maternal Child and Reproductive Health. ISGlobal is accredited with the Severo Ochoa distinction, a seal of excellence of the Spanish Science Ministry.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

ISGlobal is seeking a highly motivated technician for a part-time, temporary engagement in the EC funded RESONATE project (“Building individual and community RESilience thrOugh NATurE-based therapies”). The successful candidate will be exposed to a network of Europe’s most prominent researchers in the field of associations between nature and human health. The candidate should have a genuine interest in the topic of Nature based Therapies (NbT) and have an interdisciplinary mindset.

RESONATE is funded by the EU’s research and innovation Horizon Europe (HE) program under GA No 101081420.

KEY RESPONSABILITIES

  1. Recruitment of participants. The work will be conducted as a team with at least one senior researcher who will supervise the progress.
  2. Fieldwork and data collection: physiological and anthropometric measurements, saliva samples, validated questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews. The work will be conducted as a team with at least one senior researcher who will supervise and guide the work.
  3. Support nature-based walking therapy sessions in urban coastal settings in Barcelona and/or metropolitan area when required. The work will be conducted with a mindfulness professional.
  4. Deliver intervention sessions. The candidate will be trained by a mindfulness professional and the research team.
  5. Support coordination within the fieldwork technicians’ team.
  6. Work with the project coordinator to ensure timely accomplishment of project’s objectives and deliverables.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

Assist with a number of tasks related to fieldwork of a case study of an NbT in an urban coastal setting, including, for example:

  1. Work closely with supervisor and team leader.
  2. Contact health care centres and assist with recruitment.
  3. Data collection and storage.
  4. Assist in data analysis and presentation of results.
  5. Assist in literature searches and compilation of reports.
  6. Ensure coordination with the management and maintenance of measurement instruments and related fieldwork material (e.g., heart rate bands).
  7. Provide general administrative support including scheduling and preparation of events and meetings.
  8. Attend meetings with project partners including taking of meeting minutes.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Undergraduate degree in psychology, environmental or biological sciences is preferred.
  2. Experience in assisting fieldwork in nature and health studies.
  3. Experience in assisting with data collection and descriptive analysis.
  4. Experience with questionnaires administration.
  5. Experience with participatory process and qualitative methods will be an asset.
  6. Experience with the RedCap platform will be an asset.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

  1. Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  2. Flexibility.
  3. Good level of Spanish, Catalan and English are required.
  4. Quantitative data management and analysis skills are highly valued.
  5. Proficient in Microsoft Office software.

CONDITIONS

  1. Duration: 5 months.
  2. Starting date: middle February 2025.
  3. Salary: Technician II B (26.066€ gross annual).

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process is designed in two phases:

  1. Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.
  2. Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.

If needed, any technical test could be passed. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.

In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will start the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. A profile questionnaire as well as a technical exercise may be required during the process.
