About the job
The Applied AI & Modelling team is seeking a Data Scientist to develop advanced predictive models and AI-driven solutions specifically for the banking industry. The successful candidate will demonstrate robust analytical capabilities, proficiency in machine learning techniques, and a thorough understanding of data-driven decision-making processes. You will work closely with a team of SAS experts with a diversified skillset to meet the needs of SAS customers. You will collaborate with R&D and product management teams to improve SAS solutions and analytical products based on customer requirements.

As a Data Scientist you will:
- Collaborate with IT to prepare and manipulate structured and unstructured data for data discovery and mining from multiple disparate resources.
- Build high-end analytic models, utilizing supervised and unsupervised learning models, to support decision makers with data-driven insights that address immediate business problems and objectives.
- Create informative visualizations that intuitively display large amounts of data and/or complex relationships; translate data analytics into coherent reports and presentations for internal and external customers with varying degrees of technical knowledge.
- Prototype solutions using varied resources, including SAS software and open-source software.
- Provide support and input for projects and initiatives that contain an analytical component.
- Assist with communicating key analytic findings to stakeholders.
- Assist in the translation of business needs into analytical opportunities.
- Be responsible for the support and maintenance of production analytical models as assigned.
Required qualifications:
- Three (3) years of relevant experience such as analyzing data, building analytical and/or machine learning models.
- Master’s degree in fields that include strong coverage of applied mathematics and statistics, computer science, engineering, or related fields.
- Strong knowledge of applied statistics, probability, data modeling techniques, predictive modeling techniques, and in-sample and out-of-sample model assessment.
- Strong knowledge and experience in rare-event modeling, e.g., fraud detection.
- Proficiency in SAS programming required.
- Working knowledge of Python or R preferred.
- Familiarity with common *nix command-line utilities and scripting.
- Strong aptitude with at least two operating systems supported by SAS software.
- Ability to resolve problems with minimal management assistance, escalating when appropriate.
- Ability to communicate with people of various technical backgrounds, think analytically, write and edit technical material, and relate statistical concepts and applications to statistical and non-statistical SAS users.
- Business domain expertise in financial services and specifically in payments.
- Right to work in Spain. Must be based in Spain.
- English fluency. Fluency in Spanish is a nice to have.

Preferred qualifications:
- Knowledge or experience in some combination of the following: fraud detection, predictive analytics, machine learning, optimization, and statistical theory.
- Ability to manipulate voluminous data sources with differing degrees of structure across disparate sources to generate and communicate actionable insights for internal or external parties.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to portray and convey information.
- Existing or developing industry expertise.
