Context And Mission

We are looking for candidates with a technical background who will become part of the Operations Department of the Center and participate in the activities of the BSC Data Management team, supporting scientists with Big Data applications and tools.

Key Duties

1. Set up and manage Hadoop and Open Stack platforms on BSC premises.
2. Deploy and manage Big Data solutions for researchers on BSC premises.
3. Deploy software solutions to manage scientific data according to requirements specified in research data management plans.
4. Contribute to the implementation of data services connected to the distributed computing systems of the Center.
5. Work with BSC researchers to ensure the appropriate implementation of standards and methodologies for data management.
6. Monitor applications of data protection and security rules.

1. Education
   • Degree in Computer Science, Physics, Software Engineering, Mathematics or related scientific disciplines.
2. Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
   • Proven experience in a similar position.
   • Proven experience in distributed computing environments (HPC/HTC/Cloud).
   • Excellent understanding of system administration of computing platforms like Hadoop and OpenStack.
   • Excellent knowledge of Big Data management functions and solutions for data transfer, storage, analysis, distribution, exploration, etc.
   • Proven experience in working with large datasets and distributed file systems, SQL, databases, data lakes, metadata management.
   • Proven experience in UNIX/LINUX environments and scripting languages.
   • Experience designing and/or implementing GUIs and web interfaces.
   • Excellent computing skills in languages like C/C++, Java, Python, Spark.
3. Competences
   • Fluent written and spoken English.
   • Ability to work under set deadlines.
   • Ability to work independently and in a team to complete tasks on schedule.
   • Enthusiasm for working in a scientific research environment.

1. The position will be located at BSC within the Operations Department.

3. Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration.
