Data Engineer

Freelance Data Engineer (Azure / Databricks / SQL Server / Python) – FinTech Project

We’re partnering with a dynamic FinTech organisation that’s scaling its data capabilities and launching multiple data-driven projects. They are looking for an experienced freelance Data Engineer to join the team and work closely with Data Science, Product, and Engineering stakeholders. In this role, you’ll help design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and modern data architectures using a blend of modern and legacy technologies.

What they’re looking for :

• 3–5+ years’ experience as a freelancer or contractor
• Strong experience with Azure Data Services (Data Lake, Data Factory, Synapse, etc.)
• Commercial experience with Databricks for building pipelines, notebooks, and Delta Lake integrations
• Advanced-level Python skills for data engineering and automation
• Hands-on experience with SQL Server for querying, data extraction, stored procedures, and integration with modern data platforms
• Exposure to FinTech environments or other regulated industries is highly advantageous
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams

Must-haves :

• Either currently in a contract or immediately available
• Based in Spain with availability for CET collaboration hours

What you’ll do :

• Build and maintain scalable data pipelines in Databricks and Azure, integrating data from diverse sources including SQL Server
• Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure data availability and quality for analytics, reporting, and machine learning use cases
• Optimise and automate ETL / ELT processes, including the migration and transformation of data from legacy systems
• Support the modernisation of legacy pipelines into a robust, cloud-native data architecture
• Implement and promote best practices around data governance, testing, and monitoring.
