ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for you as a Customs & Trade Manager EMEA. The position will be based in Madrid, Spain, with reporting line to the Head of Global Customs, located at HQ in Basel, Switzerland.
Job Purpose
The EMEA Customs & Trade Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with customs and trade regulations across the EMEA region, supporting efficient and compliant import/export operations, minimizing associated risks and oversees adherence to export control regulations to prevent unauthorized transfers of potentially controlled goods and technologies.
Customs Compliance Management:
- Oversee the management of customs procedures for imports and exports across the EMEA region, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, with focus on EU-activities
- Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and local authorities to ensure smooth clearance of shipments
- Implement and maintain processes to optimize customs duties, tariffs, and tax liabilities
Export Control:
- Build up an export control system, ensuring compliance with international export control regulations (EAR, OFAC, EC-Dual Use regulation) and embargoes
- Liaise with legal to keep up to date with changing laws and regulations affecting international trade in medical devices
- Implement and enforce export control procedures to mitigate compliance risks
Trade Strategy and Process Optimization:
- Work closely with the Head of Global Customs to develop and implement trade and customs strategies for the EMEA region
- Identify and drive opportunities for process improvements, automation, and cost savings in trade operations
- Analyze trade flows, manage free trade agreements (FTAs), and leverage customs regimes to minimize costs
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including E2E-Supply Chain, Purchasing, Finance and local subsidiaries/distributors, to ensure cohesive and compliant trade operations
- Act as the primary point of contact for customs and trade compliance matters within the EMEA region
- Actively participate in various strategic and operational projects within the 2E2 Supply Chain organization, contributing expertise in customs and trade compliance to support efficient and compliant supply chain initiatives
Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain comprehensive records of customs declarations, trade documentation, and relevant compliance activities
- Develop, implement, and maintain local working instructions tailored to EMEA-specific customs and trade compliance requirements, ensuring alignment with regional regulations and company standards

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in international Trade, Business Administration, Supply Chain, or a related field, with strong focus on customs & foreign trade
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in customs, export control, and international trade, preferably in the medical devices or healthcare industry
- Strong knowledge of EU-customs regulations, export control laws, and international trade agreements
- Experience managing customs brokers and freight forwarders
- Familiarity with free trade agreements (FTAs)
- Fluent in English; additional languages (German, French, Spanish, Portuguese) are advantageous
- Experienced in project management, communication, and negotiation. Strong analytical capabilities with a deep understanding of advanced analytics and AI technologies
- Familiarity with digital technologies and process design
