General Description:
The open position is within the Environment and Human Rights Corporate Department, which is one of the 4 areas reporting into Telefonica’s Chief Sustainability Officer. The mission of the Environment and Human Rights department is to design, develop and implement strategies and actions to act upon opportunities and to mitigate risks in relation to a wide range of sustainability topics, ranging from environment and climate change over sustainable supply chain management to human rights. And we do this at a global level, with impact in all the Telefonica footprint geographies and businesses.
Main functions:
The climate change expert we are looking for will participate in a variety of projects related to climate management and new regulation requirements:
- Climate change information reporting and assurance (CSRD)
- Participation in Telefónica's annual corporate report of non-financial information, following CSRD requirements.
- Internal control of non-financial information (climate change). Support in auditing processes.
- Implement specific projects to fill the GAPs of new regulation
- Participation in environmental reports and presentations for investors and analysts (CDP, DJSI, MSCI, etc.)
Climate Action Plan
- Annual update
- Internal control and verification process
Climate change risks and opportunities (physical and transition risks).
- Tool management: identification, valuation and collaboration with financial impact measurement
- Internal control and verification process
Carbon footprint (scopes 1+2+3): calculation; verification; reporting
- Methodology and IT system update following main international standard and internal criteria.
- Quarterly calculation of the carbon footprint and tracking of the performance
- Non-financial information control system applied to carbon footprint.
- External verification of the global carbon footprint
Carbon footprint reduction (scopes 1+2+3)
In collaboration with other teams, boosting and tracking initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint (renewables; efficiency, circular economy). Collaboration in the implementation of the carbon pricing within the company.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or related, Science/Engineering with a postgraduate in environment and climate change also considered.
- Specific GHG training (or experience) will be necessary.
Experience
- Previous experience in climate change management is needed (risks, carbon footprint calculation, verification and climate reporting)
- 3-5 years of work experience in environment and climate, either in a company or consultancy
- Knowledge of climate change risks as well as verification and control systems would be recognized.
- Experience related to the implementation of environmental management systems (ISO 14.001, 14.064, 50.001…) and KPIs reporting will be valuable.
Languages
- High-level fluency in English and Spanish is required.
- Other languages valued, especially Portuguese and German.
Skills
- Passion and interest in sustainability trends and challenges
- Good project management skills with attention to detail and comfort dealing with ambiguity.
- Analytical skills including ability to identify gaps and opportunities.
- Experience participating in projects in a complex and international organizational environment.
- Great communication and writing skills
- Ability to produce deliverables: reports, presentations, Q&As, papers.
