Who we are?

The EMEA Merchant Acquisition Sales organization is a sales team of different nationalities speaking more than 28 languages based in Madrid. Our teams successfully acquire and manage relationships with merchants in all European Markets. As a European hub, based in our new European Head office, we offer a rewarding package and the opportunity to work at one of Spain's premier employer brands.

The main objective of the Centralized Merchant Team colleague is to bring value to small and medium key merchants, through a trigger-based reactive approach, focusing on account retention and business expansion when possible, collaborating across markets and Line Of Business’s ensuring full acceptance and engagement within the portfolio.

Main responsibilities

  1. Retaining (and expanding when possible) charge volumes and revenues.
  2. Maintain and grow active locations.
  3. Improve merchant satisfaction measured through annual survey.
  4. Retention of accounts.
  5. Ensure compliance and control.
  6. Bring value to merchants through commercial speech and American Express specific tools.
  7. Best practice sharing and team support.

This role is an individual contributor role and will report to the Client Management Market Team Leader.

Qualifications

  1. Native English speaker and in-depth knowledge of country and market landscape.
  2. Fluent in English.
  3. Extensive experience in account management roles, ideally over the telephone is a plus.
  4. Demonstrated negotiation skills; excellent objection handling.
  5. High level of business awareness and financial acumen including ability to understand key financial drivers and draw accurate conclusions from them.
  6. Good understanding of American Express business and financial competitive and regulatory landscape.
  7. Strong organizational and time management skills, able to set priorities to achieve goals.
  8. Accountability and ownership.
  9. High level of determination and self-confidence, ability to work in groups and contribute to the team’s success.
